Ma and Pa Kettle were the featured characters in a series of popular light comedic movies in the 1940s and 1950s. The movies revolved around the absurd misadventures of the Kettle clan, a large but loving family of country hicks. . . like other comediennes of her era, Main started her career in vaudeville. . .

Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes, was #1 in the UK in Jan '70, and #5 in the US in February of '70. That smash hit proved to be so successful that Edison recorded other songs under other group names which duplicated the sensation of their first hit together.
As White Plains, their single of My Baby Loves Lovin' reached #13 in the US and #9 in the UK. Under the name of The Brotherhood Of Man, their United We Stand reached #13 in the US and #1 in the UK in 1970. Whatever works!

Born Sofia Villani Scicolone, in Rome Italy on September 20, 1934. An illegitimate child from a poor home in Naples, she became a teenage beauty queen and model. Her film debut was as an extra. She came under contract to film producer Carlo Ponti, later her husband, and blossomed as an actress. An international career followed and she won an Oscar for La Ciociara, (1961, translation Two Women). Frequently appearing with Marcello Mastroianni, her many films include The Millionairess (1961) and Marriage Italian Style (1964). In 1979 she published Sophia Loren: Living and Loving (with A E Hotchner) which was filmed for television as Sophia Loren: Her Own Story (1980), in which she played herself and her mother. She received an honorary Academy Award in 1991.
How she stays so gorgeous is anyone's guess, but being Sicilian myself, I would be willing to bet there's something in the olive oil, no kidding. In any case, I better get me a few barrels of it lol

I've got her on my mind now because of Lava's trivia question. Nancy Walker was a natural comedianne, her role as Ida Morgenstern in the sitcom, Rhoda, was closer to real life than most people realized. She was devoted, loving, sarcastic, and never let you have the last word. Reminds me of someone very dear to me (i love you ma). Enjoy this short clip of Ida in all her glory..

Although I think of him as the Master of Comedy, Mel Brooks' film, "Dead And Loving It" is not his best, but it has its moments. This is one of them.

Here's another performer whose career was launched with the help of Ed Sullivan.
Johnny Rivers was born John Henry Ramistella, on Nov 7, 1942, in New York. He was versatile enough to do folk songs, blues, covers of old-time rock 'n' roll songs, and some original material, all of them in his own unique style. Rivers's greatest success came in the mid and late 1960s with a string of hit songs (including "Seventh Son," "Poor Side of Town" and "Secret Agent Man"), but he has continued to record and perform to the present.
