December 1978: California Suite - Commercial Preview The 17th of December from that year. Do you remember that? How many recall four stories wrapped-up into one? I do. And you? A group of guests have something in common. They've all travelled to a certain vacation spot. Though, it will get kinda unexpectedly zany after a short while on their seemingly perfect stay to a vacation hotel. Like comedies and sight-gags? Well, this is it. Is it for you? Specifically, I really enjoyed the performers. My initial reaction was on Christmas Day then. I recognized them all easily. Just to sit and see how incessantly a shot play can become a part of me, all thanks to Simon. A guy that I would embrace if I had a chance. The variety of people are primarily there to make sure this doesn't become a bad mess, which tends to happen without good timing and bad directions. But in this case, it never happened, due to the fact of cool personalities with a real sense of fun and humor. Staying at a hotel never looked like this? How did they all get along? *E*

1964: Fly Me to the Moon: Frank Sinatra and Count Basie Did you know when it comes to a standard, I can't forget it. Just like you. Do you know about Bart Howard? A long-time writer from the past. It was his idea that really gave him a lift then. Especially in a few cabarets where it was basically heard at first. I don't think I have ever been to one of those places. Have you? Mister Howard eventually saw that things eventually changed with his composition being a success for himself. It lasted for years. Do you know that the man had an entire list of titles (49) that broke things open for him. This is what happens when you know how to get exposure with a lot of luck and efforts. Easier then (perhaps?) Originally, it was first heard way back in '54 in NYC. That must've been a fun time to be there. We know that. A lot of brilliant ideas were being signed with those you may know. Since then, it has become known across the country. The writer, he had chosen his words carefully, as it was once called "In Other Words". Did you know that Bart, he was getting his name across with his seperate works to the right people. Within a short time, the '54 number was redone by Frank in the seventh year of that decade. This was a time when Frank was getting a new start, revamping himself, as he was fallin' out from the rest who were rising over him, on a whole different level when compared to him. He just wasn't fitting in with trends, and was in danger of losing it all as others were more modern and "with it". In no time though, he accomplished a new rise with winning a golden man for a flick he was seen in at the time. Know it? Of course, things were not always good behind the doors. It's just the way things are for those who do that sort of thing. Now, he was rediscovered by more than women, all thanks to a lot of great chances to prove himself again. Show after show really did it for him. Remember? By the way, when it comes to the ambitious tune, people were really paying attention, as it was their second go together at it. It did well for both, especially with widening their social circle with close-ties along their way. The sparks were flying then for both with their careers on the move. It couldn't be avoided as both were eager with their creative efforts. They were then sure bets, and both hard to avoid with catching ears with a slew of invites around the world. They enjoyed each other too well, and could be seen together over the years doing significant work that hardened their partnership. On Basie, he was born in Red Bank, New Jersey, and is best remembered for the banner influential work he set in our culture throughout his lifetime. *E*

Kay Starr: Rock and Roll Waltz (1956) Originally from Dougherty, Oklahoma, Kay was notably born the mid-summer of 07/22, and has been connected to much of the past, with coming outta 1948, and making a name for herself through to '65 by broadening herself with a few other styles not mentioned at the moment. Though meant to be, she got her livened start at a very young age, moving herself up over years with her hopeful personality and particularly good timing. Despite these passing years, she was best known for having the 'Waltz' reach the top in 1956. As well, going back to 1952, a redone gem called 'W*h*e*e*l of F*o*r*t*u*n*e', which went to the very top spot. If you know it, it was first brought out the previous year. Know about The Cardinals? They came from the R and B Fifties era. With the "Waltz" number, it had kept itself goin' for six straight weeks. Soon thereafter, satisfyingly delivered, it sent a lot of people her way from around the globe. The well-deserved attention also brought her offers for years. Yet, previously, Kay had tried with other material, but nothing like the attention the 'Waltz' and 'Wheel' numbers got. Though, it's true, some numbers caught on better than others after. Actually, as the 'Waltz' story goes, another connected to her suggested the number for her. She didn't take it all that seriously when first asked about it, as she was use to another kind of style that was more her liking. The idea of putting her up on a novelty bit, it wasn't her. She had more of an an adeptness to jazz. Kay also slipped herself into the western swing genre, which brought her name and voice to more for a good deal longer. How did she get the unique last name? Constant misspellings from fan letters she received from Texas, Tennessee, right along to California. The name became appealing to her - as it made her more memorable. It is interesting to know that she is a full-blooded Iroquois Indian. Also, she has a huge following in Britain. The timelessness of the novelty bit is still here today, with her still able to get up and do what came to her naturally on any stage, and amazingly still, with her being in her 90s. By success, the obvious gem she had not been so sure on, Miss Kay is still being heard today. *E*

1974:The Great Gatsby Preview How many were in their school days when the jazzy romantic piece came about your neighbourhood/city in March or the later part of that year? So many stable of faces connected to the social cinematic throwback came together, and became stuck for years after with us. Do you know how this all came to be? It took the better part of four years to come to finalization. Not easy getting a novel from 1925 turned into a flick. Know who is responsible for that? Not easy, as he has said. Who said? Well, he is known for dealing with one compelling jungle/war picture a few years later. Know it? In Seventy-Four, the jazz bit really hit its stride. There were actually two pictures prior to it. One in the mid '20s (now missing), and then the other in the 1940's. And there was another back in 2000 with Mira Sorvino. I have never seen them. Not yet. Two people involved in the 2nd one were actually included in the updated Long Island story that came 30 years after. If you remember '74, it sure did make a scene when it came out. It was timed right with all the hype around it, including throwing in so many of the elite from Holly-Town that we would be introduced to again and again. The film had the right atmosphere that goes back to that time of the roaring 20s. In actual fact, most of it took place in the United Kingdom, combining New York and Massachusetts. Ever heard of Uxbridge? Did you know that Ali MacGraw was supposed to be in it? Things did not pan out that way. A sudden chance came upon her, which changed things up. I am sure there was lots of drama behind it. Who knows? She had other ideas at the time with her own life path and career. Let's just say, it was a serious dating situation that came to be. Recall? So vague I am when there are other parties involved. The changeover worked out well for all. Even though, now the clothing seen were all hiding an expected child with the newly hired lady, adding a great result. True. NOTE: I found out on why the noticeable difference has switched it up from the usual norm we were all use to back then. Huh? Check below. True. *E*
