The Great Dictator Dance with the Globe Since Lava has shared his clips of the great Chaplin, I'd like to add one more. First released in October of 1940, The Great Dictator bitterly satirized Nazism and Adolf Hitler, which culminated in an overt political plea to defy fascism. Well before the full extent of the horrors of Nazism had been uncovered, Chaplin's film advanced a stirring, controversial condemnation of Hitler, fascism, and the Nazis, the latter of whom he excoriated in the film as "machine men, with machine minds and machine hearts." This film was Chaplin's first talkie, and his most commercially successful film. Lava, I know you're going to enjoy this!

Little Rascals This clip is odd for a couple of reasons: It's been colorized and the dialogue is in German! However, the important part--Alfalfa singing Let Me Call You Sweetheart--is in English. This is from the episode Hearts Are Thumps (1937) in which Alfalfa's buddies, angry that he has betrayed the principles of the He-Man Woman-Haters Club, sabotage his lunch with soap.

On The Set with Steven Spielberg In a career that spans almost four decades his stories never cease to amaze, thrill and touch our hearts. 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull', which began filming in June of this year, is scheduled for release on May 22, 2008. Spielberg has also begun plans for an Abraham Lincoln biopic, titled 'Lincoln', which will star Liam Neeson as the 16th US President, and is also scheduled for release in 2008. He's also started working on a space travel movie entitled 'Interstellar'. It will be based on real scientific theories of black holes, worm holes, time travel, and gravity. Steven is also planning a motion capture film trilogy based on The Adventures of Tintin. 'Jurassic Park IV' is also in development, and another of his upcoming projects is a miniseries which he will produce with Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, titled 'The Pacific'.

I Love Rock And Roll by The Arrows Joan Jett first heard this song when she was touring England with The Runaways in 1976. She recorded a version with 2 members of The Sex Pistols in 1979, but it was her rerecording of it with The Blackhearts released in 1982 that finally put the song on the charts. The record label that The Arrows belonged to didn't promote the song, so it remained in relative obscurity until Joan recorded it, the second time. It still seems weird to hear a male version, although this is the original.
