The Eagle and the Hawk I vividly remember going to see John Denver at Saratoga Performing Arts Center when I was about 5 or 6 years old and hearing this song. There was a big screen in back of John with eagles and hawks flying. I was totally enthralled by it. I believe my love of the eagle, and the hawk, come from this moment in my life. (That and when I viewed my first bald eagle soaring over our school when I was in first grade). There's something magical about them. Their grace, beauty and power never cease to captivate me. This compilation is from various concerts from the 70s and 80s.

Territorial Governor of Hawaii on Whats My Line From July 13, 1958, William Quinn, the territorial governor of Hawaii, is a contestant on What's My Line. (Hawaii's status as a territory seeking statehood thoroughly confuses the panel.)

USS America CV66 Last Cruise The third USS America (CV-66), formerly CVA-66, was a Kitty Hawk class supercarrier of the United States Navy that served from 1965 to 1996. She was the fifth U.S. Navy ship to bear the name. Originally ordered as an Enterprise-class nuclear carrier, the ballooning costs of Enterprise during construction caused the cancellation of the nuclear CVAN-66 and her reordering as a conventionally-powered Kitty Hawk-class carrier. She would still be operational if it was a nuclear ship. She was decommissioned in a ceremony at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Va on 9 August 1996.America was planned to be sold for scrapping. However, she was chosen to be a live-fire test and evaluation platform in 2005, to aid the design of future aircraft carriers. After the completion of the tests, America was sunk in a controlled scuttling on 14 May 2005 at approximately 11:30, although the sinking was not publicized until six days later. At the time, no warship of that size had ever been sunk, and effects were closely monitored; theoretically the tests would reveal data about how supercarriers respond to battle damage. The ship rests 16,860 ft. below the Atlantic Ocean surface, roughly 250 miles off the North Carolina coast

Bob Bogle of rock band The Ventures dies at 75 Bob Bogle, lead guitarist and co-founder of the rock band The Ventures, known for 1960s instrumental hits like "Walk, Don't Run," and "Telsta", has died at age 75. Don Wilson, the band's other co-founder, stated that Bogle became ill over the weekend and died Sunday. The band sold millions of albums and heavily influenced other rock guitarists. It was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008. Among its other hits were "Perfidia" and the theme from "Hawaii Five-O." The band got its start in 1958 in Tacoma. Bogle played lead and bass and Wilson played rhythm guitar. They were soon joined by Nokie Edwards, another guitarist, and drummer Howie Johnson, later replaced by Mel Taylor.

The Sting - Poker Game A memorable scene from one of my favorite flicks--The Sting (1973): Henry Gondorff (Paul Newman) proves he's a better poker player than Doyle Lonnegan (Robert Shaw). To be completely accurate, Gondorff actually proves he's the better card cheat of the two.
