Besides her 1969 Broadway hit "Promises, Promises," Mercer won praise for the 1978 revival of "Stop the World, I Want to Get Off" co-starring Sammy Davis Jr.
On television, she starred in the ABC-TV comedy "It's a Living" from 1980 to 1982. She also had roles on "St. Elsewhere," ''Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" and "Love, American Style."
Besides her husband of 31 years, Mercer is survived by a daughter, Deirdre Whitaker, of Seattle.

Interestingly enough, what's pointed out, you may not know much about it, but in fact, it's remained in our culture for many years, ever since the mid '60s when it 1st came out. One of the originators, Miss Doris Troy, was the who made it a part of our youths. And in truth, its actually been redone by the Hollies in the early sixties, too. It's what brought them into place in the lights. Remember Miss Anne Murray, she tried it in '74. With regarding that, this may be the reason you know about it, or was it the old transistor you had then?
Anyhow, we are focusing on 09-78, and even a few months later when JOL was charted, from one who is absolutely gorgeous and beloved. Do you remember early winter of say Seventy-Nine? That was the time when it was going on and on, no matter what hour it was. That made it every bit worth remembering.
Of course, you remember back then. Round the globe, LR is known to be of Mexican descent, which definitely contributed to making her appealing to too many then. There is no joke in not being able to bury the fact that over thirty discs have been brought out from the woman of change. You may know, it takes a lot of confidence to pull-off what she did.
Tucsonans are proud of her ever-changing abilities. Know what a Tucsonan is?
Hey, wanna know just a little more? Well then, read far,far below the lines. By the way, you may notice a reference towards a day. I was pointing out a magazine issue with a cover from that time period a bit too fast. She was on so many other titles too!
Then, it was just a high-point for her that would bring so many more covers. How many remember the variations of change that took place in the Eighties for the woman. It seemed to work, despite all that I could ever say, she was all-over the place with various styles then.
It was hard to ignore with her success going through that time. And the thing is, she still is looking into the camera today.

Here's A Saturday morning cartoon show that almost no one remembers: These Are The Days. It ran on ABC from September 7, 1974 to September 5, 1976. These Are the Days was an animated television series from Hanna-Barbera. The series, although critically acclaimed, only lasted 16 total episodes. The show originally aired on Saturday mornings but was switched to Sundays midway through 1975. The second season was almost entirely comprised of reruns. The show was set at the turn of the 20th century in an American town called Elmsville. It portrayed the everyday lives of the Day family--which consisted of a widow and her three children, along with her father (the kids' grandpa) who was a skilled inventor. Each episode featured the various family members and their interactions with friends and neighbors, usually ending with a lesson learned. It was designed to capitalize on the popularity of the nostalgia and rustic family lifestyle of The Waltons, but it failed to catch on with most youngsters. Frank Cady (Sam Drucker from Green Acres and Petticoat Junction) provided grandfather Homer Day's voice. June Lockhart was the voice of Martha Day, the mother.

I can see the flurries now. Christmas is upcoming! How about New Year’s? Ready? I'm still looking for stocking stuffers for this weekend. I still have to get some above average pearls for stocking stuffers. Okay, back to the business of flurries in the forecast in 1963. There was probably more snow then. Blizzards! Can you look back to the years of the 1960s easy? How about it? That specific year. Is it easy to remember? Hey, did you know that it isn't about Xmas. It's about something else. Love. Originally then, it started from the late 1940s, when it became one of those new seasonal favorites, way back in the sixth year of the 40s. Do you know about Mister Vaughn Monroe? He was the first to take it to the chart. Ever heard of him? It went on to reaching all the way to a great place. That would be One. Since then, there have been a couple more over our time. How about the 1950's. That was extremely successful for someone you may know. He has pulled off quite a few others too. Anyone? Any New Yorkers out there? Frank who? Frank? Generally, he was known as a particular person from Hoboken. Ya got it? Sure you do. A blue eyed guy who was born February 1940. And the lady spotted here. She remained until the early 1970s with Mr. R. Things were not running as smooth as they should of been. It has been said, things were looking rough for her. Did you know, from the late 50s to the mid 80s they were a great couple. You do know who I am talkin' of,right? But with life and business, things change. Especially over the long period of time. She is doing wonderful now. They were a great combination then. Too bad with what happened. You have to have the right attitude for carrying on. She is doing fine now. I like a happy ending. *E*

In the 4th year of the 1970's came something cool. So cool, that nowadays it would make you feel young again. Recall it? Sure. It had a long shelf life for those who understood them then. It could've been different though. It could of been very subjective to what it really was talking about. These days, it sure doesn't belong to a dance club for seniors or a cheering section in an arena. No, not at all. Campuses in the 1970's was more like it. How did you come about it? Easy answer. And for these reasons, it has lasted and lasted. It was off their 2nd effort then. Placed and organized in a specialized trucking unit built for getting the sounds all-down for us. You get the picture, right? So, after a few switches on the questionable original message, the strange friend in the story being said, now represented something very different. It was now a sensible change to the loss of what was 1st unfolded on paper. Becoming more than a tale of sadness due to a depiction of bad,bad stuff. Man, such a difference it makes, just for it to be heard again. I really dig 'em. What about you? It went to the third spot on the chart a year later, as people came to recognize them more and more from it. I love stick man Larry Lee restoring our happiness for then at this time. Unfortunately, I don't dig things associated with drugs. Nothing. But a good quality message came out of it. We all like that. It had an excellent flow. This is why it lasts. It really is that simple. It made such good sense. About their early times, they 1st joined together in '72, over in Springfield, Missouri. They looked quite extreme for back then, as their name was perfect, but their long stringy hair was something that made them stood out from the rest. Really? Most people could not get enough of their unique spectrum sized range of beautiful sounds. An increasing number of people still positively respond to them still thanks to their early beginnings. Did you know that they remain to this day in another form from then. They sure haven't left yet. Catch them around the summertime in person. *E*

Remember what was happening in the year stated? Sure you do. Now, don't get me wrong on it, I know it is long ago. Ever had a conversation about it? Did you know that it was really inspired from a fruit-scented note that had been written for someone close to the original reclusive writer/instrument player. True. Who was he, the writer? Heard of him? Well, it was a guy named Shuggie Otis. For years, I had been previously unaware of the fact until a New Year's Eve conversation about the string player. As the story goes, he had no idea that by the time it was redone and finished, it would be as big as his own modest self. Down the five years, it worked out just fine for him. But, it really could of launched his budding career. His fortunes could of changed for himself for much of his life. But, Otis did seem content with it. Even though, as I said, he could never of anticipated it. It was just a love letter that spawned it. A relationship that went from one to another. All in all, it was particularly useful for him in the long run of things, as he was just a teenager when he put down his own feelings about it to a girl. He must of realized soon enough that he could draw a lot from it($). I bet, to his surprise, he had became the winning element when the original was reworked into something cooler by a few top-people who cleverly knew that were on to something. Resulting into something that fared better than the 1st try that he had made in the early '70s. Seems that the writer (Otis) had a female cousin, and because of this, one of the brothers came across the vinyl effort by accident by dating her. This is how a 2nd chance can come back around with a little more of an effort with a new idea added, and not being obliged to be faithful to the 1st source. There was a lot of accompaniment on the 2nd try. Do you know who was on it? It was a different sound altogether. Due to this, it made its way into our lives because of those involved. Even today, look no further, it is immensely enjoyable still. On the brothers, Louis and George, their association with Mister Jones was a welcomed chance to get them known around the world, thanks to his cousin. And now with particularly heading to Japan, QJ gave them the consistency that others would beg for then. As years went on, they experimented with other genres that would separate them all from their earlier days, especially with such things as church music. However, they would really not repeat back what they had done previously. Only choosing to go another way. By the late eighties, they had left due to more contemporary trends that were appearing. *E*

Johnnie Ray is almost forgotten today, but he was a huge singing star in the early 1950s. At the peak of his career, Ray's income was $35,000 a week. Born in Oregon in 1927, Ray had top 40 hits until 1957. Despite being skinny, pigeon-toed, half-deaf and effeminate, this highly emotional performer was the most popular male singer of the pre-Elvis Presely era.
Indeed, when Elvis first started out, he was often introduced on stage as "the new Johnnie Ray".
Known as "the Prince of Wails" for his distinctive singing style, Ray is mostly remembered for his lip-quivering early 1950s hits such as Cry; Please, Mr Sun; and The Little White Cloud That Cried. His live performances, in which he sometimes played the piano, were wildly unpredictable. It was not uncommon for Ray to break into tears or flop to the stage floor while belting out a tune.
His 1954 recording of Such A Night was the first chart hit to be banned by the BBC for its "suggestive" lyrics. Several American radio stations followed suit. Nevertheless, it still ended up topping the British charts.
Ray had an interesting personal life: He became deaf in his right ear at age 13 after an accident at a Boy Scout camp and prominently wore a large hearing aid for the rest of his life. He was twice arrested in Detroit for soliciting sex from men. The first arrest was in 1951 just before he became famous. (He quietly pled guilty and paid a fine.) The second arrest was in 1959, but he was acquitted by an all-female jury. He is rumored to have had a long affair with newspaper writer Dorothy Kilgallen (of What's My Line? fame) that began after his first of two mystery guest appearances on the show. Ray was a heavy drinker who was hospitalized for alcoholism in 1960. He died in 1990, at age 63, from liver disease.

Remember Bob Atcher? Bob Atcher was born in Hardin County, Kentucky, and learned violin and guitar from his father, who was skillful at playing the fiddle. Bob attended Kentucky State University when he was only 14. He studied medicine and combined that with guitar playing and yodeling.
He started out on radio in Louisville on WHAS. In 1939 he was offered a regular gig on Chicago station WBBM which was broadcast nationally by CBS. The show made him a national star, and he signed with ARC just before CBS bought the company. After the purchase Atcher was transferred to Okeh Records and then to Columbia Records, both CBS subsidiaries.
Between 1939 and 1942, he recorded many duets with Loretta Applegate, who went by the stage name Bonnie Blue Eyes. Atcher fought in the Army in World War II and returned to performing in 1946.
In 1948 Atcher signed on with WLS and became a performer on their National Barn Dance. As one of their biggest stars, he continued to chart national hits. In 1950, he signed with Capitol Records, and later in the 1950s moved to Kapp Records. He continued with the Barn Dance well into the 1960s, and re-signed to Columbia that decade, re-recording many of his songs in stereo.
Atcher, like Gene Autry, was a shrewd businessman, and bought several businesses and invested in banking with the proceeds from his career. He was also the mayor of Schaumburg, Illinois from 1959 to 1979. He died in 1993.

Once again, it's showtime! Who could forget, the affection former Manchester gent had gained then. It was just as equally great as his older siblings. It was unfortunate though, he had passed on at exactly 30 years of age. Bad timing. There was a lot of talk on why and so sudden. Remember when? Like all, we expect to spend a lifetime with him. But it was not to be. How do I incorporate a great life of travel for the Manchester-born performer? Well, as a child, he was relocated nearby Brisbane, Australia, which changed the course of his life. His days included being placed in the city of Sydney. But by the late 1960's, he decided to fly over to Britain with the rest of his family to seek a more appealing life of success with his brothers and close sister. He wanted to be creative and expressive like his other three bros. You could call this a cash move for the whole family. It seemed then, the family were making the right move for the boys. As he grew into his teen years, he set himself up on the Island of Ibiza (Spain) doing the tourist entertainment circuit, and then, after some time, he went over on the Isle of Man, found close to Britain and Ireland. In 1974, Barry asked him to return to Australia. He listened, and hastily packed, most obviously to take action to make it big. Often times, this is how you solve a problem, by taking your strong impulse and moving on with it. Back then, he was orienting himself with endlessly being connected with his brothers calling. As life suddenly became complex for him in 1976 Australia, he decided to take the significant step to go to Florida with them. It had become difficult to deal with his wife in Australia. He wasn't receptive to know that she was with baby. It wasn't his! That would of finished most, but he carried on in America. In the late part of '76, brother Barry was ready to guide his baby brother in the right direction. Everything felt better when both experienced a top-charted disc (#1) that his brother famously wrote for him, as he was too skilled at it, just like his other siblings were. The next year he saw a wave of success by the brothers that included himself this time. Do I really need to say that it was partly thanks to a white suit and a flashing-lit disco floor found in NYC. That accomplishment made them all feel like a million bucks. But it was even much more for them. At one point, Andy outsold all others with his brothers help. That is a strong family unit, just so long as you are happy. In April of '78, things took off for Andy. He achieved his hearts desire with a wave of numerous vinyl hits that followed more and more. Well, not that it made much of a difference, but Andy emerged just as popular as his family members. He had become as important. We are aware that Barry had a hand in it. Everyone shared together with the '78 hit. A great bond. Two years had passed, when things would crack with inadequate feelings. Time spent with his gal would become broken suddenly. How many recall Victoria P.? He had to choose from becoming an ongoing concern during the course of their known relationship. He ultimately suffered with losing her. He was too much in a daze then with her. Things were becoming strained with that. It wasn't good. So with various projects still being sent his way, he became more and more difficult in social situations on and off in the public. He did try and try by conquering his problems in '84. He was the top performer at a major festival in Chile, with performing two nights back to back. He also held a two-week engagement at San Fran's Fairmont Hotel in 03 of '86 thanks to his talents. His streak of ones was slowing though, even when he was given great opportunities. But he had a difficult time overcoming his now gone girlfriend. He couldn't move forward in a personal way. So he just fell into the distance of his private world of drugs and behavior issues. And absenteeism was causing heartbreak and agony, all caused by binges of that white junk we know of. Basically, it wasn't pretty. Much sadness followed quickly with him isolating himself from others due to that. All in all, he did achieve more by becoming the guy who would never disappear from us, despite the consequences that messed his life up. He had a total wave of 11 no. ones that came right on time in his life. Never forgotten. *E*
