Klaatu Barada Nikto My Dad asked me to watch this 'old' movie with him . . i thought it would suck! I mean, it had this lame-looking 'spaceman' with his protector, Gort. Boy was i wrong! This classic stars Michael Rennie, Patricia Neal, Hugh Marlowe, and Sam Jaffe and tells the story of a humanoid alien who comes to Earth to warn its leaders not to take their conflicts into space, or they will face lethal consequences (it even has "Aunt Bee" from the Andy Griffiths Show!!)

Tippi and Hitchcock She began her career as a model and was discovered for films by director Alfred Hitchcock, who saw her in a commerical and cast her in "The Birds" (1963; with Rod Taylor). "Marnie" (1964), a psychological thriller from the novel by Winston Graham, was Hedren's second Hitchcock assignment. Although Hitchcock continued to have Hedren in mind for several other films after "Marnie", the actress had become increasingly uncomfortable with his possessive manner and she declined any further work with him. Other directors who wanted to hire her had to go through Hitchcock, who would inform them she was unavailable. "It grew to be impossible. He was a very controlling type of person, and I guess I'm not about to be controlled", said Hedren, who bought out her contract. Ending their professional relationship on a sour note, she recalled, "He said, 'Well, I'll ruin your career.' And he did." ** Hedren's daughter is actress Melanie Griffith.** also *** She was named Nathalie Hedren, but given the nikname Tippi as a baby by her Swedish father from the Swedish "Tupsa" which means sweetheart. ***

Wallace Reid Tragedy One of Hollywood's first truly tragic stories centered on the handsome and likable Wallace Ried. Reid was one of the silents screen's biggest stars from 1919 to 1922. Hailing from a showbiz family, he initially hoped to be a film director. At age 19 Reid took a script his father had written to Vitagraph Studios. The studio recognized Reid's potential as a sex symbol and cast him as an actor. The versatile Reid often worked as a director, writer, and even as a cameraman. He was featured in two of D.W. Griffith's epics: Birth of a Nation (1915) and Intolerance (1916). Reid also appeared as a dashing race car driver in several Famous Player films, becoming a major cinema heartthrob. While making The Valley of the Giants (1919), Reid was injured in a train wreck. The studio given morphine injections for the pain so he could continue working. Because Reid was so valuable, his studio kept providing him with more and more morphine so he could keep making movies. Reid quickly became deeply addicted but there was virtually no drug-addiction help in those days. By 1922, Reid's health was in tatters. He died on January 18, 1923 at age 31. His widow, Dorothy Davenport, made a film about drug addiction titled Human Wreckage and toured with it to raise national awareness of the dangers of morphine.
