Early Muppet Commercials In the 60's, the most popular of Jim Henson's commercials was a series for the local Wilkins Coffee company in Washington, D.C., in which his Muppets were able to get away with a greater level of slapstick violence than might otherwise have been acceptable with human actors. The first seven-second commercial for Wilkins was an immediate hit and was syndicated and reshot by Henson for local coffee companies across the United States. He ultimately produced more than 300 coffee ads.

Shipwreck Kelly Flagpole Sitter One of the weirder phenomena of the 1920s was the popularity of flagpole-sitting, a strange publicity gimmick mastered by Alvin (Shipwreck) Kelly. In 1924 Kelly was hired by a Hollywood press agent to promote a new film by sitting on the flagpole above the Los Angeles theater where the movie was playing. He remained there for 13 hours and 13 days, starting a bizarre national craze. By 1928 Kelly was earning over $100 per day for his stunts--fantastic money in those days. The apex of Kelly's career occurred in 1930 when he spent 1,177 hours atop a 125-foot flagpole at Atlantic City's Steel Pier. The Great Depression, however, diminsihed the public's appetite for such stunts. By the end of 1930 Kelly's stunts were earning him little more than pocket change. His last public appearance of any significance occurred in 1939. Broke and on welfare, Kelly dropped dead in 1952 while walking between two parked cars in New York City. Clutched tightly in one arm was a scrapbook containing clippings and momentos from his glory days as King of the Flagpole Sitters.

Shirley Bassey What a Powerful Voice Here is an outstanding 1998 performance of one of Shirley's signature songs, "Goldfinger" All of her performances are great, but this one is exceptional. At 61, Shirley's pitch and vocal power were right on the mark!! She has sold over 135 million records in her 55 years as a recording artist. In recognition of her career longevity, endurance and a particular admiration from the Royal Family, Bassey was created a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire on Dec 31, 1999 by HM Queen Elizabeth II.

Julius LaRosa Sings This Is Heaven Probably from early 1953, Julius LaRosa sings This Is Heaven on Arthur Godfrey and His Friends. This guy has a great voice! Sadly today he is mostly remembered for being fired by Godfrey on the air later that year in one of broadcasting's most infamous moments.

Excellent Fed-Ex Ad John Moschitta is the fast talker in the old Fex-Ex ads. This commercial is what made him famous. It's one of the many great ads to come from Sedelmaier, who also produced Where's the Beef.
