Catweazle The series started in 1970 and featured Geoffrey Bayldon as Catweazle, an eccentric, incompetent, dishevelled and smelly (but lovable) old 11th Century wizard who accidentally travels through time to the year 1970.

The New Treasure Hunt Anyone else remember this wacky, syndicated game show? Airing from 1974 through 1977, it was sort of a cross between Let's Make A Deal and Deal Or No Deal. A lucky contestant chose one of 30 numbered boxes. A box might contain anything from a worthless prize (known as a clunk) to $25,000--a fantastic sum back then. After choosing a box, the contestant was put through an emotional wringer by host Geoff Edwards. This clip from 1976 provides a good example of what typically occurred on this show.

1966 World Cup Final Controversy It is still the most controversial moment in the history of sports--although most Americans have never seen it! England and West Germany are tied 2-2 in extra time in the 1966 World Cup final. Does Geoff Hurst's shot cross the goal line? The officials said it did--and England wins its only World Cup.

Featured Member- SpruceMoose My name is Wayne. I was born in 1952 in a town about 40 miles east of Los Angeles, California. For the last 57 years, I have lived within shouting distance of Route 66. I have always been a big fan of trivia, especially history. A brief dabbling in genealogy revealed that I'm a direct descendant of Edward III, but my friend Dolores Cullen, a scholar of Geoffry Chaucer, was more impressed that the bard's first patron, John of Gaunt is something like my 19th great-grandfather. I was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose for quite some time, where my wife, Linda and I both served as officers. When she passed away I consoled myself with the internet, where I discovered YRT, and I'm also an habitue of Yahoo Answers, where I endure bad spelling and nonexistent punctuation in order to offer guidance to young people. My profile picture [avatar] is of me, taken in about 1963, judging from the roller skates and my godparents' 1962 Chevy that was originally in the background. Just to make myself a little more interesting, I am currently homeless, living in one motel room or another, or occasionally staying with a friend. I'm so old, I can remember when Knott's Berry Farm, Southern California's oldest theme park, had free admission, and you bought individual tickets for each attraction.

Jackpot Here's another 1970s game show I liked that didn't last too long: Jackpot. It aired on NBC from January 7, 1974 through September 26, 1975. Contestants had to solve riddles to win cash prizes. Geoff Edwards was the host. Sadly, only two episodes of this game show are known to exist on videotape!

Jefferson - The Colour of My Love After hearing Music Maiden's posting of Baby Take Me in Your Arms, I started thinking about the other Jefferson song - "The Colour of My Love" - included here. It only charted to #68, not as high as "Baby...", which hit #23, four months later in December, 1969. Jefferson was the pseudonym for Geoff Turton. Geoff's original claim to fame was as a (co-lead) singer for the Rockin' Berries, a rock group getting its start in the late 1950's, in Birmingham, England, but with other members in their line-up. I posted one of their hits separately under The Rockin' Berries.

Hes In Town - The Rockin Berries The Rockin' Berries was a "Brumbeat group" from Birmingham, England, which by the early 60's ended up having two lead singers. One was Geoff Turton, who later went on to a solo career, then calling himself: Jefferson. But while still with the Rockin' Berries, they were heard by an American record producer who suggested they cover a Carole King Gerry Goffin song recently released by the Tokens "He's In Town". The Rockin' Berries version is very similar to that from The Tokens, and a favorite I really haven't chosen yet. In England, The Rockin' Berries actually had a greater hit with their version, Number 3 than did The Tokens in the States, Number 43. Look for their version under The Tokens.

The New Treasure Hunt - 1974 Clip The New Treasure Hunt was a 1974-1977 syndicated remake of a 1956-1959 game show. The orginal show had a quiz segment. The 1970s version did not. Hosted by Geoff Edwards, it offered a fantastic grand prize of $25,000 to a contest who was lucky enough to choose the right box out of 30--and have the nerve to stick with it. Total Television describes the program as "slow moving and cruelly suspenseful." In this short clip from a 1974 episode, a contestant thinks she has made a bad bargain until Geoff surprises her.
