Kitty Genovese murder 1964 It was one of the most infamous murders in American history--not for the murder itself, but for the apparent apathy of people who presumably could have intervened to stop it. Twenty-eight year-old Kitty Genovese was returning home from her job as manager of a Hollis, New York sports bar in the early hours of March 13, 1964. She parked her red Fiat about 100 yards from her Queens, New York apartment building. Winston Moseley, a black man with no criminal record who later stated he just wanted to kill a woman, chased Genovese for a short distance, caught her, and began stabbing her repeatedly with a knife. Genovese screamed for help. One neighbor shouted, 'Leave that girl alone!' Moseley initially left the crime scene. Genovese, seriously wounded, crawled to her apartment building, but Moseley returned ten minutes later, stabbed her several more times, and sexually assaulted her. The brutal ordeal lasted for about 30 minutes. Only after Moseley left did anyone summon the police. Genovese was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Two weeks after she died, a scathing New York Times story (from which this photo was taken) claimed that 38 people saw or heard the assault but did nothing. Subsequent investigations into the crime claim that number was greatly exaggerated, but no fewer than 12 people probably had the opportunity to call police. One neighborhood resident preferred to drown out Genovese's screams by turning up the volume on his radio. Another, a recent immigrant from France, said she was reluctant to call the police because her English was not very good. The phrase, 'I don't want to get involved,' became synonymous with the case. Moseley was eventually caught and confessed to Genovese's murder and two others. He was originally sentenced to death, but his sentence was later reduced to life imprisonment. He once told a parole board that he had written the Genovese family a letter to apologize for the 'inconvenience' of having killed Kitty. In one interview with a parole board, Moseley tried to portray himself as the 'real victim' because he was being punished for decades while Kitty's ordeal was relatively short! Moseley's 13th attempt at obtaining parole was denied in March 2008.

President Gerald Ford Gets Swine Flu Shot On April I5, 1976, Congress passed Public Law 94-266, which provided $135 million of taxpayers' funds to pay for a national swine flu inoculation campaign; that's $348,491,686 in 2009 money. Within a few months, claims totaling $1.3 billion (1976 dollars) had been filed by victims who had suffered paralysis from the swine flu vaccine. Makers of the drug were given guarantees from the government to be immune from side-effect lawsuits.

Last of the Secret Agents 1966 Original theatrical trailer. Marty Allen and Steve Rossi, two American tourists in France, are given a multipurpose umbrella and pitted against an international band of art thieves. Among the stolen treasures is the Statue Of Liberty. Nancy Sinatra plays Steve's girl and she sings the title song. Supporting cast includes John Williams, Lou Jacobi, Sig Ruman, Harvey Korman, Edy Williams and Ed Sullivan. Terrible Allen and Rossi film, great Nancy Sinatra theme song! This film appeared on AMC, years ago. Like their unaired, unsold 1965 TV pilot "HELLO DERE!", this didn't do much for Allen & Rossi's career....

Skinhead Breaks Geraldo Riveras Nose Before brawls were regular happenings on TV talk show sets, a famous scuffle broke out on Geraldo in 1988. (What do you expect when you have a show about skinheads and their ideological enemies?) The result: one broken nose for host Geraldo Rivera! If it hadn't already begun, the era of sleazy talk shows was now underway. (Loathsome as this incident was, I must admit I experienced a bit of schadenfreude when this donnybrook happened!)

How About Garden Opoly as a Christmas Present i recently had a chance to check out Garden-Opoly. This very fun version of Monopoly uses different breeds of plants instead of properties, with POISON IVY replacing MEDITERRANEAN AVE, and Orchids replacing BOARDWALK. Each player buys garden favorites, collects Clay Pots and trades them in for Greenhouses. Sounds easy enough - but add aphid infestation, water bills and a dandelion outbreak and it becomes a little more difficult... and a lot more fun! Each deed back contains interesting facts such as the appropriate climate, soil and watering for each plant, as well as, fun facts about origin, popularity and varieties. A player may even be elected president of the garden club (always wanted to be famous)... or may be WEEDING, and out of the game for three turns! The custom pewter tokens are: a hand trowel, garden clog, garden gnome, wheel barrow and ladybug...i'm the clog...can't keep my shoes on!
