Three Legged Man Frank Lentini Sicilian-born Francesco (Frank) Lentini was a familiar figure in the early years of the 20th century for an obvious reason: He was born with three legs. One of the legs was malformed (probably from a twin that did not develop properly in his mother's womb). It served no useful purpose other than providing Lentini with a portable stool! Lentini's father was ashamed of him and exiled him from home. Lentini grew up withdrawn and depressed until he visited a home for the handicapped and saw children who were far worse off than he was. He emigrated to America in 1898 at the age of nine. Billed as the Three-Legged Wonder, Lentini appeared in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show and Ringling Brothers' circus. Lentini eventually married and fathered four normal children. He died in Florida in 1966 at the age of 77.

Everyones Gone To The Moon - Jonathan King 'Everyone's Gone To The Moon' is a song that was written and recorded as the debut single of the British singer-songwriter, producer and impresario Jonathan King. The song, which was released in 1965 while King was still an undergraduate at Cambridge University, immediately shot him to international fame. It was a top-ten hit in the UK and also reached #17 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It went on to sell more than 4.5 million copies world-wide and so established King in the music industry. It has since been performed by hundreds of other artists, including Marlene Dietrich, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra and Percy Faith. Source: Wikipedia

Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra New Years Eve I love this clip from Dean's New Year's Eve Show in 1970, with Ruth Buzzi, and his regular cast of Kay Medford and pianist Ken Lane.

Yalta Conference 1945 The fate of postwar Europe was decided in 1945 at the Soviet Union resort city of Yalta on the Crimean Sea. With Nazi Germany on the verge of defeat, the leaders of the three major Allied combatant nations met to decide the fate of Germany and eastern Europe. Franklin Roosevelt is visibly ill and weary from the long journey. The British Empire is in decline and Winston Churchill can no longer assert any strength. By default Josef Stalin is given free rein to deal with matters in eastern Europe. The Cold War was about to begin.

High Hopes From the movie 'Hole In The Head' 1959 and recorded as a single in 1961 this is a song I still get that chill of enjoyment from. I thought about this as a fitting memory to post on the anniversary of Franks passing. Doesn't seem like ten years.

Aretha Franklin on Whats My Line Singer Aretha Franklin is a mystery challenger on the syndicated version of What's My Line. (Look for a very young Jerry Orbach as one of the panelists!)

1972 Olympic Marathon Prankster American Frank Shorter won the 1972 Olympic marathon, but he was preceded into Munich's Olympic Stadium by a prankster who circled the track before race officials realized he wasn't a legitimate competitor.
