Not your typical 1960s-style commercial. The opening gives it a darker edge. (Nevertheless we still have the obedient wife trying to make the perfect coffee to please hubby.)

Here's one of those old-style coffee commercials that wouldn't fly today. Macho-jerk husband criticizes his pretty wife's coffee-making skills. The solution is to switch to Folgers, of course. Now 'sir' is a happy macho-jerk and the pretty wife is once again in his good graces.

Here's another archaic and sexist coffee ad from 1952. (What is it about coffee ads?) This brute makes the jerk in the Folgers commercial look like the ideal husband.

In the mile-long series of commercials for Folgers Coffee, the story was always the same - the wife feels terribly guilty at making bad coffee, and the husband sure lets her know it. Perhaps this was the true catalyst of the womens' lib movement of the 60s! We have Folgers Coffee to blame... sexist to the last drop. And if he still complains, she can always put a little bit of arsenic in it to pick up the flavor LOL!

You've got to love these old Folger's Coffee commercials from the early 1960s. They're all pretty much the same: Doting wife's biggest concern in life is making the perfect cup of coffee for hubby. She fails miserably until she switches to instant Folger's. Once this crisis is solved, presumably hubby and wife can produce their statistical average of 2.2 children and live the American Dream.
