The Doors Of Education This is a pro education short about some Florida Universities. Who would have known that years later, this man would be known as The Lizard King. And this was before he needed a haircut too! ;-)

Scarface - 1983 Theater Preview What a crazed performance! This was one of the most controversial films of the 80s. "Scarface," a film by suspence director Brian De Palma. There had been a film previously released in the 1930s with the same title, but this updated 1983 version had only a few similarities with it. The original 1932 movie actually was taken away for over 40 years by the director of the movie, the infamous Howard Hawks. Audiences were outraged that the film carried so much violence in its storyline. There was no movie like it then. The 1930s film had to be censored. The brutal remake was no different. The violent-packed script was written by Oliver Stone, with a moody electronic soundtrack provided by Giorgio Moroder that caught the right atmosphere. Al Pacino superbly made this character of Tony Montana, a man of vengence and fear a subject to talk of. The actor caused quite a stir of emotions with his wild actions on the screen. Audiences were appaled with its subject matter. "Scarface" had in it some of the most shocking sequences ever put on theater screens at the time. The film turned out to be quite a cimematic event when released in December of that year. If you're conservative, well then, certainly this is not a movie made for you. Oliver Stone hit the nail with this one. Did you know that most of it was shot in California, except the pool scene outside. That was filmed in Miami. There was a lot of negative press in Florida when word was spoken about the movie being made in Miami. *E*

Leslie Nielsen Passes Today At Age 84 Canadian comic actor Leslie Nielsen, star of a string of madcap spoof movies including "Airplane" and "The Naked Gun," died of complications from pneumonia in Florida on Sunday, a spokesman said. He was 84. Nielsen is probably best known for playing the bumbling cop Lt. Frank Drebin in the "Naked Gun" franchise, but enjoyed a movie and television career spanning more than 60 years.

Edgar Winter - Frankenstein (1973) Here is a throwback to being a teenager. I first heard this wild instrumental in a Florida hotel recreational room. How about you? Edgar Winter's Frankenstein. This one song went right to the top of the charts. But where would it go? Number 5? Number 2? No, number one in 1973. Really? Alike "Popcorn," the synthesizer was used in this recognized song throughout. This was not what you would called a lightened song for you're parents to listen too. In his career, Edgar Winter has made more music for movies, and with his band then you would imagine right now. He is a musician who has had a chance to show off his talent with various projects since 1970. So, 1972's 'They Only Come Out at Night' is where you can find this synthesizer hit. Now you have an excuse to go out today and search for this lost classic. Edgar Winter is one lucrative minded musican who made all the right decisions in his career. Go ahead, now you can rate this as much as you like. *E*

Brian Spencer - Hockey Tragedy On December 12, 1970 Brian Spencer was elevated from the minor leagues to the Toronto Maple of Leafs of the NHL. Prior to the Leafs' game versus Chicago, Spencer phoned his father, Roy, in British Columbia to tell him the good news and advise him to watch that evening's Hockey Night In Canada broadcast on CBC television. When the elder Spencer attempted to watch the game, though, he discovered the CBC affiliates in British Columbia were showing the Vancouver Canucks' home game versus California instead of his son's game from Toronto. Incensed, Roy drove 85 miles to the nearest CBC affiliate in Prince George, BC. Threatening several employees at gunpoint, he demanded the station switch its coverage from the Canucks' game to Leafs' game. The station complied. However, when Roy Spencer attempted to leave the television station, he got into a gun battle with police and was shot and killed. The feisty Brian Spencer spent nearly a decade in the NHL, but descended into a lifestyle of cocaine addiction afterward. He himself was shot to death at age 38 in a drug deal gone wrong in Florida on June 3, 1988.

KC and the Sunshine Band: Final Hit Single Remember? It's the final biggie for Florida's individuals. The men had established themselves then with a cool way all their own. The memorable tune was the last massive stand for the men. Totally sold for weeks on its 1st outing, mainly thanks to AM. The men achieved six number ones during their partnership. It is best remembered as the one that made the guys depart into separate ways after having success in '75. The following year was as well a fantastic time for the guys. People were driving all over town with sunshine in their ears. Unfortunately, with spending much time at the top, it was the final on the chart, it had actually became the 1st top-charter in the year 1980. A tune that could be heard right through Xmas of '79 into the new year. Ever since the Seventies, KC (Harry Wayne Casey) has been making himself move; singing and shaking to his fans across stages worldwide. Did you know that the man also released his own material since then too. "All I want" would be worth you're time-give it a try! Most critics have agreed that his solo work was worthy of being brought on the charts. The group achieved more in a short time than what most bands achieve in a decade or more. Today, KC and the rest can be heard in movies, and being sampled in other tunes that you may not even recognise. They were a group effort that had more hits than others could only dream for in that time. Do you remember highly creditable dance hits, the former groups singer has proceeded on after an amazing revival of KC and the Sunshine Band's hits were played on 70s nostagia stations in the 1990s? The singer was recently seen on "American Idol" in 2009, showing all that he still has the ability to get people on their feet and dance. Simply fantastic from a band that should of went on with more of the same energy they created on vinyl. Now, let me concentrate on original bass player Richard Finch. A man also known for his studio production abilities. Let us learn the truth to the bassist as he was the one who brought an inventive variety of numerous Sunshine Band brass players to the iconic seventies group. I would not want to be ridiculed on here for posting false information, right? The talented musican has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! With people like this, there is nothing more you can do but be happy for him for being a unique individual. I mean, after all, he was partly responsible responsible for bringing KC and the Sunshine Band's music into our lives, especially with his musical abilities as a songwriter and musician. Also, you can say as well that Richard Finch brought international acclaim to the group with his ear for on-going funky dance music. Now with working together with singer Harry Wayne Casey (KC), they both became very successful with their original compositions. You can't deny this fact, or any of these truths to the tune or its history. Hey, I went to music business school to study history and genres, and getting myself into the industry. But I found out the truth's with it, and discovering it was not what I thought. Music is better to know as a listener. Hey, I love getting grilled on YRT with questions. What more could one ask for? This is the life of a teacher with an awareness to get asked the unasked. How does one prevent negative surprises online? By doing something uncommon. A nil response. My Motto: I am only going to promote awareness and interest in popular culture for the masses to reflect upon. Published by *E*

1986 - Don Johnson - Heartbeat Okay, this here is a cool tune from the man who went into the popular culture world, Miami Vice's Don Johnson. With this mid-eighties clip, many were surprised after hearing the entire recording that he could actually sing. This album did generate a good deal of positive publicity for the actor who had a hit series that was a national hit. In this clip, the son of Frank Zappa provides some chunky guitar riffs throughout the dramatic lyrics. With 'Heartbeat', radio stations picked up on it immediately in 1986. This enabled the single 'Heartbeat' to go into the Top five on the charts. Don garnered a significant amount of quality airtime for the single on television too. With this one album, Don scored a few big-time songwriters to help him out on the album, Tom Petty included. Appearing also, popular musicians added their recording input on selected tunes, those included, guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, and country star Willie Nelson. This according to the album credits. 'Heartbeat' was popular enough to spawn a second radio single. The beginning and end of this clip are quite good, this was what gave it much appeal to his fans worldwide. Don Johnson was "all-star" in the eighties, thanks to the Florida-filmed television show. After a few short years, another album was released. 'Heartbeat' continued to be talked about, and was eventually re-released due to his on-going popularity on syndicated channels and the all-important cable stations. The follow-up to this 1986 album was titled 'Let It Roll', which was brought out in 1989. This second album was for the fan of the actor/performer. It didn't fare as well as 'Heartbeat' on the charts. *E*

Charlene - 1982 Remember this ballad singer from the eighties? There is an interesting story about her that has just a few unexpected twists thrown in. Charlene was an American artist who luckily was given a recording contract, setting out an album with a single or two in 1974 from the classy Motown recording label. Upon her signing, Charlene released her first album, but without anything really happening for her from her debut album. It just failed to get any kind of radio play. The record label had a few ideas for the singer though. "Charlene Duncan", the name she was being labeled as at the time was going to be receiving consistent help from her supporting label. Three years had passed when album number two came out, "It Ain't Easy Comin' Down" from Charlene. But wait! Another album came out at the exact same time, too! This one was recorded by "Charlene Duncan", but was said to be recorded by just the artist "Charlene". Two albums at once in the same month with two different names by the same artist? What kind of strategy is this to break-out an artist? Then in 1977, another try occured, a single ballad was released on the album, but without any major chart action. She remained without any radio or sales fo her album. The next attempt went with Charlene releasing the same single recording previously, but this time it was on Motown's umbrella label, and it had a change in it. A change? What kind of change? Well, in the lyrics to the single, it was supposed to be from the male point of view, but the writer, Ron Miller, he had decided to rewrite the lyrics for Charlene. There was some controversy with these lyrics as where it is refered to as a female who wishes she made more of an effort to have children could be misunderstood. People for some reason didn't get the message. Anyway, the changed single didn't do so much either on the chart. It just reached to the upper 90s for the fledging artist. The people behind her knew they could keep trying with the female artist. In a rather confusing way, this composition was brought out again, all in all, a third time all-together. But what of the change? All in all, it didn't work with the new change added. If you compared the two singles, both together, there was just a minor change lyrically. Into the eighties, things were about to really change for the artist. Charlene re-released the same ballad featured, except with a minor reworking back to the original recording. No change. "I've Never Been to Me" interestingly was the same composition she had brought out the first time. Charlene had recorded this originally during 1976, waiting for it to go somewhere high on the single chart the following year, but now we know nothing much happened. It was a long wait for her for any change in her career with the hopes on one single tune. Sometimes, change can be good. The single effort was not forgotten by her company. Sticking firmly with the artist and composition, they took it out once again in 1982; but this time it went right up to the number three spot in America. All in all, Charlene did two versions of the this. The version which was initially released first was actually the version everybody liked. Charlene had preciously recorded it to be a hit for radio, and Motown knew it would be without giving up on it. Overseas, the situation was different for the artist in Great Britain, the 45 went to the number one position with great attention put on the singer then. Ironically, Charlene had released different lyrical versions of "I've Never Been to Me", but it was the original version that had been actually given a second chance by a disc jockey in Florida that brought it great attention. It was funny for her, Charlene had moved to England and began living a normal family life; working in a small store when the re-released 45 became a charting big hit. "I've Never Been to Me" was about going back to a fantasy life and not dealing in the reality world, this was regards to the lines about non-committed fantasy with familiar faces, and areas as she wanted them to be, which was against the commitment to the honest love for her family. In the 80s, the organisation behind her tried to get her an even bigger hit, but it just never happened again for the performer, no matter what she did. This included changing her image and working with other artists at the label. Lately, Charlene is currently still working on this one single with an updated sound for her fans. Published by *E*
