Radio Broadcast of Clay-Liston Bout This is something you may never have heard before: the ABC Radio broadcast of the first round of the historic Cassius Clay-Sonny Liston world heavyweight championship fight from Miami Beach on February 25, 1964. It has been superimposed onto the fight film. The broadcast team was Howard Cosell (providing color) and Les Keiter (calling the fight). Liston was a huge 7-1 betting favorite, and understandably so. He won the world title by destroying Floyd Patterson in less than one round in 1962 and beat Patterson just as easily in the return bout in 1963. Clay, at age 22, was thought to be no match for the fearsome Liston despite his cocky prefight antics. Most fans expected an easy Liston victory. Watch, though, as Clay changes boxing history in the first round with his deft ring movement.

LHOP - The Talking Machine Last Four Minutes Here is the final four minutes of one of my favorite episodes of Little House on the Prairie. Titled "The Talking Machine," it's from 1976. Here's the plot: Mean Nellie Oleson and Laura are both smitten with older classmate Jason, a science buff. Nellie acquires a Thomas Edison-style talking machine. One day she tricks Laura into talking about how she feels about Jason. All the while the talking machine is recording Laura's voice. Nellie "demonstrates" the machine in front of the class by playing Laura's conversation. Laura is humiliated and runs off. The next day she reluctantly returns to school unsure of how Jason will react to her. Here's the feel-good climax.

LHOP - Centennial Finale Here's another favorite clip from Little House on the Prairie. It's the final six minutes of an episode titled Centennial. Here's the plot: As America's centennial approaches in 1876, few adults in Walnut Grove are in the mood to celebrate. They have just been informed of a tax hike made necessary to build an improved road system. Furthermore, newly arrived immigrants from Tsarist Russia, Yuli Pyatakoff and his family, are being evicted from their farm because they cannot pay the back taxes accrued by the previous owner. Everyone is grumpy about taxes and the government--until Yuli tells them how good they've got it.

Archie Bunker for Prez T-Shirts During the 1972 presidential campaign "Archie Bunker For President" t-shirts got a few laughs. America's favorite bigot didn't win the election, of course, but his man "Richard E. Nixon" (that's what Archie called him) did!

1913 Advice for Husbands and Wives Two helpul advice books for British married couples, Don'ts For Wives and Don'ts For Husbands, published in 1913, are experiencing a renaissance in sales today. Here are some of the timeless pointers contained on their pages: FOR HUSBANDS: DON'T try to "drive" your wife. You will be much more successful if you "lead" her. DONíT scoff if your wife wants to drive the car. DONíT keep up the ďpoor little womanĒ pose too long. A woman may like to be a plaything for a little while but the novelty soon wears off. DONíT rush out of the house in such a hurry that you havenít time to kiss your wife goodbye. She will grieve over the omission all day. DONíT dwell on the beauty of other women if you know your wife to be sensitive on the point. There is no sense in rubbing sores, although some men seem to find a strange pleasure in it. DONíT spend night after night at your club, leaving your wife alone to count the hours until your return. DONíT forget to buy your wife a pair of gloves occasionally. She will always be pleased to have them. FOR WIVES: DONíT think your husband not ďmanlyĒ because he happens to be short and thin and not very strong. Manliness is not a pure physical quality. DONíT moralize by way of winning back the love that seems to be waning. Make yourself extra charming and arrange delicious dinners which include all your husbandís favorite dishes. DONíT expect your husband to be an angel. You would get very tired of him if he were. DONíT try to dictate to your husband on any subject. He wonít stand for it and there will be trouble. DONíT nauseate your husband with talking ďbabyĒ all the time. As babyís father, he will stand a good deal of it, but remember there are other interests in the world. DONíT be jealous of your husbandís bachelor friends. Let him camp out with them for an occasional weekend if he wants to. He will come back all the fresher and full of appreciation for his home. DONíT say, ďI told you soĒ to your husband, however much you feel tempted to. It does no good and he will be grateful to you for not saying it. DONíT let breakfast be a ďsnatchĒ meal. Your husband often does the best part of his dayís work on it and the engine canít work if you donít stoke it properly.
