Rich Little on Dean Martin Celebrity Roast for Frank Sinatra Dean Martin was one of America's greatest legends in the entertainment industry. He is sorely missed even to this day. He honors or roasts his beloved friend and American icon, Frank Sinatra, in one of his many roasts. In my opinion, even the half-hour infomercial is far more entertaining than anything on television today. I miss people like Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and so many others. There are more people who are gone than living with us like Don Rickles, Peter Falk, and Ruth Buzzi. Frank Sinatra's roast is pretty relaxed from what we know. We're glad to see celebrities cut loose and be themselves and poke fun at this man. Nobody will ever have the roasts that Dean ever put together in Las Vegas. Of course, people were smoking cigarettes (God forbid that you display any smoking on television anymore) and drinking liquor and being human anymore. Those days are gone forever and now you have a bit of history with these episodes. Even though they drank and smoked, they always appeared to be having fun at themselves.

Mrs Columbo Opening The NBC 60-minute mystery show Mrs. Columbo lasted less than one year. It premiered on February 26, 1979 and last aired on December 6, 1979. It has a special place in TV history for having four different titles! It went from Mrs. Columbo to Kate Columbo to Kate The Detective and finally Kate Loves A Mystery. The premise was that Kate (played by Kate Mulgrew) was supposed to be the wife of Peter Falk's famed Columbo character. In his show, his wife was never seen. In Kate's show, he was never seen. Regardless of the premise or the title changes, the show failed to attract a following. Maybe a better title might have been 'Viewers Hate Kate.'

Columbo Likes His Job My favorite episode from the glory years of Columbo is 'Try And Catch Me' from 1977. In it Ruth Gordon plays a famous mystery writer named Abigail Mitchell. Mitchell kills the ne'er-do-well husband of her late beloved niece because she thinks he killed his wife. (Got it?) This scene is especially appealing to me because Columbo outlines why he likes his job--and hints that he knows that Abigail Mitchell is a murderess.

Peter Falk passes at age 83 Peter Falk died at his home in Beverly Hills, Calif., Thursday night. He was 83. Pictures: Peter Falk 1927-2011 The "Columbo" star won four Emmy Awards for his portrayal of the cigar-chomping detective who always looked as if he'd just rolled out of bed. Falk played Columbo on television regularly from 1971 to 1978 and then sporadically from 1989 until 2003.

Peter Falk 1972 Emmy Acceptance Speech At the 1972 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles Peter Falk won an Emmy for his sensational work on Columbo. Officially, the Emmy was for 'Outstanding Continued Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Series.' Here is his very amusing acceptance speech, in which he sort of sounds like Lt. Columbo when the detective is flustered.
