Seventies disco queen Summer released a rockin'/pop oriented disc entitled 'The Wanderer' in the fall of Nineteen-Eighty. I still remember it. She had just changed her past style was goin' out at that time. Donna had brought a new look with it. Around then, Donna made the decision of going into religion with following the Christian way of life. She had blamed her 1970s past label with tarnishing her with sending out the wrong message when showing her in various ways through media. Her words were all too suggestive as well for her. Her bosses were also causing her problems in her personal life. Can't wait to read about that one day. With 1980, now Donna moved over to the supportive Geffen, Summer was ready to try something different.
Her new direction reached just under the important Ten spot on the all-important American music chart. 'The Wanderer' (on its own) touched the #3 spot. At the time everything in that field was changing fast with radio and the recording scene attempting to find new artists with the New Wave sound. The abrupt end of disco was just about fleeting then.

On July 13, 1966, one of the most horrific crimes in American history occurred: Eight women aged between 21 and 23 were tortured and killed in a Chicago dormitory by Richard Speck. They were all student nurses who were a month away from graduation. The 24-year-old Speck (pictured here at his trial) was a lifelong felon whose lengthy criminal record included violent sexual assaults. On the night of the murders, Speck systematically killed his victims by strangulation or stabbing over a period of several hours. He also raped the eighth victim. Speck may have lost track of how many women were in the dorm room. A potential ninth victim, Cora Amurao, wriggled out of her bindings and hid under a bed while Speck's killing spree went on in another room. Amurao later identified Speck in court. Speck was found guilty and sentenced to die in the Illinois electric chair. The death sentence was later commuted on constitutional grounds. Instead Speck was given a 1,200-year sentence at Statesville Prison. For years Speck denied having any memories of the killings. However, in a 1978 interview he confessed to remembering everything. In a 1988 prison videotape, Speck was seen partying with fellow prisoners who were high on illegal drugs. The video recorded Speck mocking his victims. Portions of the video were broadcast nationally in 1996, increasing the support for capital punishment. By that time Speck was dead; he had died of a heart attack in prison on December 5, 1991, a day before his 50th birthday. No family member came forward to claim his body.

Look who has come out on the stage, it's .... a kookie butler! Hard to imitate, the servant was just one tall guest, able to gain a huge following thanks to its b&w direction, which was shown weekly for a year. Originator, Gene Weed played the host with fun, bringing hot acts into households, not just something you'd find elsewhere, but much more established, gaining monthly attention to the wide-teen viewership. A baritone voice novelty at the time, Pittsburgh's Ted Cassidy was also well-known for more than the obedient spook, he was a musician, and a highly sought after, occasionally heroic character/voice professional for everything that was given to him, including "The Twilight Zone" and "Star Trek". Ever seen 1978's "Goin Coconuts" with Donny and Marie? How about "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"? Established by the 1970s, now after more than 20 years in the business, Ted passed tragically in 1979 while in a hospital, Rona Barrett bore the news during those difficult hours with her gossip/film segment on Good Morning America. Ted left too soon, leaving his unique, familiar persona behind for others to enjoy years after.
By the way, on occasion, Ted played the role of Thing when they were not required to be in the same shot together.

Remember the year 1984? That was the time when the Summer and Winter Olympics appeared. It was also the year that the Apple Macintosh PC came out. That changed everything every day, didn't it?
When I think of then, I remember spending time turning up my speakers where I was staying at the time. Ever been to Baltimore?
Can you recall who this is? Recognised yet from another position elsewhere? Any guess? You really got to be an expert on this sort of thing. He is known elsewhere. You see, he was absolutely successful for quite some time this year with being known appropriately with the sought-after tune. Well- known as a keyboardist among other things throughout years, but his main prominence is in a certain country in Europe, and now is still continuing himself over into other areas of what he does best in a singular way.
Puzzled still? The answer should be found at the very end. *E*

Way back in Nineteen Eighty-Seven, perhaps you can remember just how times you heard the San Fran guys? Just how big were they? Well, you would notice them almost every time you switched on at home, or in the car, any kind of place where there was a radio or a television catering to something decent at the time. Am I right? Huge in the Eighties with everything they did. Remember September of 1987? Top position of the others they went right for.
As you may know already, this was just what a super-successful release can hold with a single sport expression on it. Before all that happened, the man was eager to get some kind of act together, he'd even gone over to the United Kingdom in the 1970s to try things out. This all did changed when he went all-Californian, returning to become a well-received artist with being who he was with his guys working alongside him as a unit. He had made it at last in 1982 without having to pretend to be something he wasn't. Did you catch him in a recent film? Still lookin' good, and more than ready for performing live anywhere. Even at Halloween.

Remember the year? How about the recognisable woman?
A NYC blonde with a multitude of solidifying talent. It was hard to keep up-to-her with what she was doing during those early years with launched ventures in many fields, such as film, modeling, and of course, nation-wide live shows that got her noticed. On the other hand, with Gloria, Harry now joined in with the already famous woman who had become a top-developer of designer blue jeans almost overnight. She advanced all thanks to being a daughter to a father who had a large amount of money at his disposal, soon becoming a famous rich heiress with a 1/2 in a five million dollar trust fund, beginning when she was a very young age. How lucky is that! Years later, becoming a true innovator in something that raised a lot of faces with knowing what to do with herself in a rather large city run by business built on immigration.
It was during the 1970s, both women put together things that were never forgotten. In fact, the blonde legend that is featured is still current after all the years that have passed with her worldwide fans.
Nobody could guess the rest as the woman she hooked up with, Miss Gloria, who now had readily became creative with new freedom in the fashion world at an age that would bring much envy from many others.
Notable for allowing the use of her versatile name on a line of licensed eyeglasses, clothing, and a perfume line that had the more than the word hit all over them. Eventually, this got her involved in the Indian powered Murjani Corp. who continued the fashion craze she begun with adding a stronger pace of tremendous sales, prompting itself into the public with a successful blonde campaign that went on for sometime. Then, Mohan Murjani was a fashion designer in America looking for a way into the market. It was during the end of the 1970s, Murjani was eager to release her known brand name on designer jeans associated with him. These were not common Levi or Lee, they were fitting rather tighter around the legs and backside, much more than any other brand that was being sold. Arranged and licensed now, the heiress's name was found on the rear pocket behind the happy wearer.
Gloria was chosen as the spokeswoman for the products, including perfume, which enabled her to reach a celebrity status.
This brought out more designers, such as Armani and Calvin Kline, but her jeans were the top on the market at the time.
Gloria had the best people around her, including marketing masters that could not be beat. Gloria had gotten herself apparel gold with them. She was selling faster than the competition with her HK, China stitched brand. Still, a huge amount of millions worth of manufactured jeans were sold, twice than Calvin Klein's American manufactured brand. Everything was done quick with a massive amount of energy to sell over all below her, getting the attention of the consumer. Soon after, sophisticated and confident Miss Harry was a new tactic to catch the young market with her overwhelming popularity that began in the last years of the seventies. Ultimately, it was Calvin that trucked itself into the market with a new fresh face, he brought in Brooke Shields as a retaliation means to rob the spotlight from Gloria with risky, graphic, controversial ads that were shown on billboards and other print media, targeting the youth market that Gloria had won with her amazing campaign.
What about Jordache? Maybe another time?

Andrew Carnegie made a vast fortune in the steel industry. His philosophy was that a man should spend half his life acquiring wealth and the other half using it for good works. Accordingly, Carnegie financed the building of the astonishing total of 2,509 public libraries in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries. Carnegie's passion for libraries began at a young age. He saw the value of public libraries as places for learning and community centers. Cities or towns that wanted a Carnegie Library had to provide the building site and maintain the library after it was built. Carnegie's money paid for everything else. A carnegie library always had to have 'open stacks' so the public could browse, and it had to provide free service. Carnegie's foundation built libraries from 1885 to 1929. (Carnegie himself died in 1919 at age 84.) Many of these libraries are still in use today, such as the one pictured here in Grass Valley, California.

First off, let me say, do you remember? Do you remember the fall of 1964 well? What was it all based on? An All-American? It's obvious as there were others as well as him then. General Mills was supporting it for years in a syndicated format, right up til the year 1973. UD was actually changed around with different titles. Did you know that this is just one of quite a few creations that were used to sell breakfast to us kids. True. Another one was Tennessee Tuxedo. Another pleaser for some of us, but not as popular as the physically strong canine. Remember Hollywood Squares in the seventies? There was a funny little guy in one of the X or 0 boxes. His name was Wally Cox. He was the comedian behind the voice. In life, he was a very athletic individual, but when work came along, he would often play the opposite of his own personality. This highly-revered dog was always secured being remembered, this is so as it came out at the right time. A major factor that actually asserted well. Never reduced to being anything lower when danger and crimes set as a dimwitted shoe shiner. Who knew? But when the pill-popping powers of the ring came into play, that all changed. The dog had with him for emergencies a power, which came under controversy and scrutiny. This changed almost everything done with the plot when adults got concerned. It is a funny fact that the pills were in later years, all taken away from gullible children's eyes. It just didn't look right to those that opposed that sort of thing. In the end, this only messed and confused the unexplained plotting. The flier was last seen in its original run during the mid-seventies with the bad wolf and evil scientist, among many parodied others, trying to thwart the super-dog with his girlfriend reporter always by his side. You gotta agree, his absence is missed.

Curious what this is? The cool logo looks the same, but it's a different group, isn't it? Yes and no. You see, there were some changes that had to be placed in order for it to sell.
Debuted in 1964 for two years only, leaving quite the impact on our youths, with quite a bit of unknown history behind it.
But hold on for a minute! Explain! Well, it seems like low-leveled comedy for something that would go on, eventually leaving an impact years after. Did you know it was intended to be a possible cell-toon than what it turned out to become. That does seem unsuitable for what would bring a lot of happiness onto the plugged set. How would've that played out? Totally different, and not long lasting. Does anything like that last?
So, it's from the first month of 1963, unseen for years until recently. Actually, there was another version made in January of '64 with a few perfecting differences. Wanna guess? Easy, eh. It didn't get a "boo" as it was all redone as the 2nd story in the first year with the new changes.
This is a very prominent example to what you would call a "throw back" - a "pitch presentation", but with only about thirteen minutes or so for showcasing. Does this way still exist today? Perhaps?
So as explained, it was redone, just not necessarily the same way, but as something more familiar as what we have come to know. Like something from a childish nightmare.
Example, when it was brought back there were many differences made in the interior of the home. It was requiring more bizarre and old artifacts to give it that shoddy real estate rejection appearance. But still not patterned right, you noticed the big fatherly giant wasn't given any stuffy padding, which made him appear overly thin. As well, in the stomped encounter, he looked curiously odd, considering who he represented from years past in a long string of b&w frights. Later, a few additions were placed that made him more reminiscent.
As well, the young boy was a lot meaner. In the following year, there would be a complete change to the character. He was by no means the happiest kid on the block.
You may notice a strange sheen coming from the their faces, except on Marilyn. This was intended for the spot then.
Did you know that the "normal" Pat appeared from the fourteenth to seventieth story. She really made it look believeable as her dates would distant themselves quick from the gothic house.
Did you know that there was also a Doris Day cutting of sound thrown in from the flick "The Thrill of it All". It just didn't fit. Later, the change-over was so much better for the times with something more beachy. Everything we became accustomed to, eventually it all worked well to a tee.
But, one of the drawbacks towards it was that the spooky Miss Marshall was switched over due to being too close of a resembalance to the other family living in a house then. Recall? What would that be? Too much in common with the other strange household was quickly resolved.
Also, Happy, (is that his real name?) was too much of a pest. He needed to be given new lines.
Unfotunately, the little guy was given the axe.
It was still being repaired as Miss Bev Owen was only in thirteen of the spoofed stories til Pat moved in. Another axe dropped.
Later, from 1988 to 1991, there was an updated version that used most of the original macabresque furniture and other familiar additions from the past version.
By the way, no matter how funny it was, the filmed version from 1966 lacked a sufficient gross to get other series to be made into theatrical films. This included a movie with Don Addams "Smart" character. Ever seen the early eighties feature with him? It had a sexy title. It was made for cinema release, but it looked completely different from previous years.

The name Frank Nelson might not mean anything to you. Even his face might not ring a bell. But his voice was absolutely unmistakable. Nelson's famous elongated 'Yeeeeeees?' and 'Weeellll!' and 'Oooooh!' made everything that followed incredibly funny. Shown here in a still photo from an I Love Lucy episode, the veteran character actor made approximately 9000 appearances on TV and radio programs in his long career, many of them on The Jack Benny Program. My favorite? His appearance as the music store proprietor on a 1960 episode of The Flintstones titled The Hot Piano: 'Oooooh! Aren't we sneaky!' Nelson died in 1986 at age 75.
