Danny Lopez SI Cover 1979 One of my favorite boxers, exciting world featherweight champion Danny (Little Red) Lopez, was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated on February 12, 1979--29 years ago today. In today's repressive, politically correct society, there's no way SI would run that photo and use that caption. It generated no complaints in 1979, though.

Danny Thomas on Whats My Line Danny Thomas appeared as a mystery challenger on this episode of What's My Line from 1957. The Danny Thomas Show (formerly Make Room For Daddy) had just switched from ABC to CBS. Despite Danny Thomas's oddly negative comments about his show's prospects, it lasted until 1964.

For The Young and the Young at Heart 'Here Comes Peter Cottontail' was a 1971 Easter television special that was based on a 1957 novel by Priscilla and Otto Friedrich entitled 'The Easter Bunny That Overslept', and featured the title song "Here Comes Peter Cottontail". It was originally broadcast on ABC, and in later years, appeared on CBS. In 2006, it was followed by a direct to video sequel, 'Here Comes Peter Cottontail: The Movie'. The name 'Peter Cottontail' is actually a combination of the names of two Beatrix Potter story characters, Cottontail and Peter Rabbit, from the story 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit'. It's a story of how Peter Cottontail became the Easter Bunny.

Rock and Roll is Here to Stay Danny and the Juniors. I hear the 50s was a great time. Unfortunately, I was born at the tail end of that decade.

Lopez Vs Malvarez 1978 Some months ago I posted a 1979 Sports Illustrated cover featuring exciting world featherweight champion Danny 'Little Red' Lopez. Here he is defending his title against Argentina's Juan Malvarez on September 15, 1978 in a short but dramatic contest. Lopez was a notoriously slow starter who often got decked early by his opponent. Lopez would invariably roar back and score a knockout...like he did here.
