New Wave The Artists New Wave is a genre of music which originated in the late 1970s. Many of today's popular artists were heavily influenced by New Wave. While Punk Rock and Disco flourished New Wave to me was dead center in between the two drawing from both as well as other popular music forms. I also can't forget the fashion and the hair too. This slide show shows some of the many groups and artists that came under the umbrella of New Wave.

Peggy Sue Wow, I'm only in my 40s, but it seems hard to believe Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper have been gone for over 50 years now! This is an appearance The Crickets made on Arthur Murray Dance Party in 1957. Some American Bandstand compilations include this video, despite the fact that it wasn't actually performed on the show. According to Dick Clark, Buddy Holly and the Crickets only appeared once on AB, in the fall of 1958, playing the song Heartbeat, and that the footage of that single event was destroyed sometime in the 1970s. Sad news indeed. That AB episode was Buddys last TV performance before the tragedy.

Do Re Mi - Belgian Railroad Station Naomi alerted me to this terrific video a couple of weeks ago. It's too good not to share with everyone. At 8 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2009, this joyful, creative stunt was staged at Antwerp, Belgium's Central Station. It was designed to publicize a cast search for The Sound of Music. Watch as dozens of dancers (in regular street clothes) emerge from the crowd and begin their surprise show! This is really uplifting. I wish I had been there!
