AIRPLANE Trailer 1980 A masterpiece of off the wall comedy, Airplane stars Robert Hays as an exfighter pilot forced to take over the control of an airliner when the flight crew succumbs to food poisoning, Julie Hagerty as his girlfriend, stewardess, co-pilot, and a cast of all-stars including Peter Graves, Leslie Nielson, Robert Stack and Lloyd Bridges. This film became a cult classic. I was never able to see these actors in quite the same way again lol

Claudette Colbert here's a little TRIVIA about Claudette Colbert: she appeared in a couple of DeMille epics in the early thirties like SIGN OF THE CROSS and CLEOPATRA, and considered it a definite come-down when Paramount loaned her to Columbia to make her 25th movie, a little screwball comedy co-starring Clark Gable called IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT. She thought it was terrible before, during and after the filming and thought so little of her chances of winning an Oscar that she had to be summoned from a train station to pick up her Academy Award. . .

Sharon Tate i would much rather celebrate the life and beauty of Sharon Tate than focus on the terrible end of her life. . . she made just a few films during her brief career, including DON'T MAKE WAVES (1967; with Tony Curtis and Dave Draper), EYE OF THE DEVIL (1967; with Deborah Kerr),and my personal favorite VALLEY OF THE DOLLS (1967; with Susan Hayward and Patty Duke), and THE WRECKING CREW (1969; with Dean Martin and Tina Louise). She was only 26 years old when she was murdered in August 1969. BEVERLY HILLBILLIES fans will recall Tate from her recurring role as Janet Trego from 1963 to 1965...

Shirley Temple We Should Be Together My favorite movie star ever (Shirley Temple) does a song-and-dance number with George Murphy in Little Miss Broadway (1938). According to Shirley's autobiography, after they had completed this scene, the crew asked for an encore. (Of course Shirley and George obliged.)

Johnny Carson Confronts Don Rickles Despite not being particularly popular, this series is often remembered for an incident that occurred on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. During production of the series, Rickles appeared on Tonight Show with guest host Bob Newhart. While poking fun at Newhart, in faux-anger, Rickles slammed the cigarette box which Johnny Carson kept on his desk and broke it. When Carson returned to the show and discovered this, he took a camera crew to the studio next door where Sharkey was being taped. Carson disrupted the taping in order to tease Rickles about it, to the delight of the studio audiences of both shows. Carson also teased Harrison Page by speaking to him in an exaggerated AAVE accent. This incident was often replayed in Tonight Show retrospectives and was considered a highlight of the 1970s era of the show.

Remembering the SS Edmund Fitzgerald At the time it was launched in 1958, the 729-foot long, 75-foot wide freighter S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald was the largest ship to ply the Great Lakes. On November 10, 1975 the Fitzgerald left Superior, Wisconsin carrying 26,000 tons of iron ore pellets, bound for Detroit. Though the day was bright, in her path lay a terrible storm with 60 MPH winds and waves in excess of 15 feet. As the storm built, her experienced Captain Ernest McSorley bore north across Lake Superior, seeking the relative shelter of the Canadian shore and Whitefish Bay. Luck was not with the ship or the crew. The radar system and its backup failed. The storm took out the power to Whitefish Point's light and radio beacon. Though the light was brought back on line, the radio beacon was not. The Arthur M. Anderson, another ship within 10 miles of the Fitzgerald, received reports that the ship was listing to the starboard and of other structural damages to the vessel. At 7:10 PM, Captain McSorley delivered what was to be his final message: "We're holding our own." The Arthur M. Anderson lost the Fitzgerald's image on its radar screens at 7:25 PM. The ship and crew of 29 men, sank to the bottom of Lake Superior. The tragic story of the Edmund Fitzgerald is remembered through Gordon Lightfoot's ballad "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald".

Oh My Erica Susan Lucci is best known for playing the larger-than-life diva Erica Kane on the ABC television soap opera ALL MY CHILDREN, on which she has appeared since the show's inception on January 5, 1970. She was nominated for the "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Emmy" for her work on ALL MY CHILDREN almost every year since 1978. When Lucci didn't win the award after several consecutive nominations, her image in the media began to be lampooned, as she became notoriously synonymous with never winning an Emmy. NBC's SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE exploited this by asking her to host an episode (unusual for a daytime serial actor), where her monologue parodied the cast, crew, and even stagehands carrying Emmys of their own in her presence...

The Hindenberg Disaster 1937 On May 10, 1937, in Lakehurst, NJ, thirty-five persons died and scores of others were injured as the Hindenberg dirigible exploded three hundred feet over the landing field at the end of her first voyage of the season from Europe. A terrific burst of flame engulfed the stern of the ship and spread with the rapidity of lightning to the bow. The inferno of blazing hydrogen gas cremated all living beings in its path, as the twisted skeleton of the balloon settled quickly to the ground. Rescue crews braved death to save sixty-three persons, some of them horribly burned.

Worlds Costliest Ad After 606 Takes And you thought those people that set up a room full of dominos to knock over were amazing... believe it or not, just unbelievable!! When the ad was pitched to senior executives, they signed off on it immediately without any hesitation, including the costs. There are six, and only six, hand-made Honda Accords in the world. To the horror of Honda engineers, the filmmakers disassembled two of them to make this film. There are no computer graphics or digital tricks in the film. Everything you see really happened in real time, exactly as you see it. The film took 606 takes. On the first 605 takes, something, usually very minor, didn't work. They would then have to set the whole thing up again. The crew spent weeks shooting night and day. The film cost six million dollars and took three months to complete including full engineering of the sequence. In addition, it is two minutes long so every time Honda airs the film on British television, they're shelling out enough dough to keep any one of us in clover for a lifetime. Everything you see in the film (aside from the walls, floor, ramp and complete Honda Accord) are parts from those two cars. And how about those funky windshield wipers...?? At a cost of $6.2 million for 90-sec commercial, this is the world's costliest ad and hands down winner in the world of ads.
