The Clangers British stop motion animated children's television series. The first episode was broadcast by the BBC on November 16, 1969 and a further twenty-five episodes were made. The twenty sixth episode was broadcast on November 10, 1972 and the final Clangers programme was a four minute election special on October 10, 1974. The programme featured a number of small creatures living in peace and harmony on - and in - a small, hollow planet far far away, nourished by Blue String Pudding, and Green Soup harvested from the planet's volcanic soup wells by the Soup Dragon. The Clangers looked similar to mice and anteaters, though they were pink, wore clothes, and spoke in whistles. These whistles (performed on swanee whistles)followed the rhythm and intonation of a script in the English language, including swear-words!

KOLCHAK THE NIGHT STALKER Opening Network series that ran from 1974-1975. Carl Kolchak, played so well by Darren McGavin, was a reporter for Chicago's Independent News Service, and a magnet for situations involving the supernatural. He turned his investigative skills to vampires, werewolves, zombies and all kinds of legendary creatures, but in the end he always failed to convince his skeptical editor, Tony Vincenzo, played by Simon Oakland, that the stories weren't just products of his own overworked imagination. I was so faithful to this show, and was so disappointed when they cancelled it.

The Wombles This kids show ran for years in the UK. Based on the book by Elisabeth Beresford these furry long nosed creatures recycled rubbish left behind by us untidy humans. Mike Batt provided the music and at the time kept some of the biggest bands in the world from the top spot on the charts here. All the voices for the characters were provided by Bernard Cribbens, a well known British actor of the time.

Creature Comforts Electricity Ads Nick Park made these for an electrical supplier in the UK. Better known for his Wallace and Gromit movies, all the voices used were un-scripted by ordinary members of the public being asked what they thought of their total heating package? Nick and Aardman productions then took these and used the characters from an earlier hit of his, Creature Comforts, and used his magic to create the ads. Love the Scottish pandas.

Roger Patterson Bigfoot Film 1967 On October 20, 1967, Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin allegedly filmed this 'bigfoot' in Bluff Creek, CA. This is frame #352 which gives the best view of the creature. Some say this film is ironclad proof that bigfoot is real. Others say it's proof that it's a hoax. Prior to 1958, few people had ever heard of the large creature that supposedly inhabits the remote wilderness of the Pacific northwest. People who claim they've encountered bigfoot describe the creature as anywhere from six to 10 feet tall, weighing about 500 pounds, and having an unpleasant odor. The scientific community almost universally believes bigfoot exists only in folklore. This view is unlikely to change until a live bogfoot or a corpse is found and thoroughly examined.

Loch Ness Monster Photo 1934 Although reports of a strange aquatic creature inhabiting Scotland's Loch Ness have been around since the seventh century A.D., the first purported photo of 'Nessie' did not appear until this image was published in the Daily Mail on April 21, 1934. It became known as the 'surgeon's photo' because the picture was sent to the newspaper by Dr. Robert Kenneth Wilson, a gynecologist, who insisted on anonymity. Sixty years later the photo was revealed to be a hoax. The image was created with a submerged toy submarine and a head and neck sculpted of plastic wood (a material commonly used in model construction). Sculptor Christian Spurling made the creation at the request of Marmaduke Wetherell, a big-game hunter who had been mocked by the Daily Mail. Wetherell used Dr. Wilson as a go-between to get the hoax published in the newspaper.
