Happy 63rd Wayne Fontana Remember Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders, and their hit song The Game of Love, from 1965? Here's some interesting facts. In 1962, he formed his group Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders and got a recording contract. He was still under contract to Fontana Records after parting with The Mindbenders. He continued on alone, using musicians under the name of the Opposition. Sometimes they were billed as the Mindbenders, or just as the Wayne Fontana band. In 2005 he fought off bankruptcy, but was arrested after police were called in by bailiffs who went to his home in Glossop, Derbyshire. It is claimed that gasoline had been poured onto the hood of a car, and set on fire with a bailiff inside. Fontana was remanded in custody on May 25, 2007, in regard to the charge. He appeared at Derby Crown Court dressed as the lady of justice, with a sword, scales, crown, cape and dark glasses, claiming "justice is blind". He dismissed his lawyers. All that being said, you have to admit he's still a talented musician. Here's a clip I put together from The Game of Love taped in 1965, and more recently during a show in 2006. They're still doing concerts, and at 63, Wayne Fontana hasn't lost it yet, at least not his voice!

Stevie Wonder Isnt She Lovely The clip was taken from Stevie's stop in Detroit at the famous Masonic theatre. Overall the entire show was excellent and was by far the best of the Stevie concerts out there. Stevie interacts and brings down the house. Live in 1984

The Eagle and the Hawk I vividly remember going to see John Denver at Saratoga Performing Arts Center when I was about 5 or 6 years old and hearing this song. There was a big screen in back of John with eagles and hawks flying. I was totally enthralled by it. I believe my love of the eagle, and the hawk, come from this moment in my life. (That and when I viewed my first bald eagle soaring over our school when I was in first grade). There's something magical about them. Their grace, beauty and power never cease to captivate me. This compilation is from various concerts from the 70s and 80s.

The Who Houston 1975 I was 17 and in the audience at this concert. Back then, whatever outlet the tickets were sold from determined where you sat. So there was always a big group of kids who knew each other sitting in the same section at concerts. Those years were some of the best of my life.

Duran Duran - As the Lights Go Down commercial Dran Duran's Oakland, California concerts that were filmed for the Arena (An Absurd Notion) movie were also edited to form the one-hour As The Lights Go Down concert video. The name comes from a lyric in the song "Shadows On Your Side" from the Seven and the Ragged Tiger album. As The Lights Go Down is essentially the Arena video with only the music, although the live footage for many songs was edited differently. This version was first aired on the Cinemax cable television channel, and later on MTV and other music channels. At least two versions exist. (from wikipedia.org)

We Will Meet Again - WWII Song Along with Lili Marlene, We'll Meet Again, sung by Vera Lynn in the 1940's, were the most popular song(s) of the Allied soldiers during WWII. (My father was constantly singing it for 40 years after the war ended). Here is the song reprised by 29 year old Welsh mezzo-soprano, Katherine Jenkins. (She does not look very much like an opera singer). She has embraced the causes of English veterans of WWII to those presently serving in the Middle East. She performs concerts all over the U.K. for the vets and troops on active duty, along with maintaining the rigorous schedule of an opera singer. She radiates the very essence of the English girl. You will probably know the tune and join in, singing with the crowd at this Cardiff concert. The song is at once, melodic, uplifting, and nostalgic.

Jerry Lee Lewis Marriage Scandal Jerry Lee Lewis was one of early rock-and-roll's pioneers and leading performers. In December 1957, when he was 22 years old, Lewis secretly married for the third time. The bride was Myra Gale Brown--who happened to be just 13 years and five months old. Myra's father was Lewis' cousin, J.W. Brown, a member of Lewis' band. News of the strange marriage did not surface until May 1958 when a British journalist uncovered the story as Lewis was beginning a tour of England. The adverse publicity caused the tour to be cancelled after just three concerts. The backlash followed Lewis to the United States. Many radio stations refused to play Lewis' songs. Lewis went from $10,000-per-night engagements to small-time bookings where he was lucky to pick up $250. Moralists declared the scandal was proof of rock-and-roll's inherent evil. The couple stayed married until 1970. Today Brown is a real estate agent.
