A 1961 commercial for The Great Garloo by Marx toys. This toy is hot and collectors go nuts over them even if they don't work. Notice the price at the end. It must have floored most parents! See the pictures I have of this toy and his son from my collection.

If you are some kind of eccentric rich person, or a hopeless collector, you can have a piece of Elton John’s history, a 1904 piano casemod with a 26” HDTV screen, Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM and 500GB of storage. And you’ll have more than enough space to make any upgrade you do want to.
The “buy it now” price is US$ 19,998.00 and if you just can’t help it and want to buy it right now, just head to eBay...

Fleer's 1989 baseball card of Billy Ripken of the Baltimore Orioles had an unusual feature: an obscenity on the handle of his bat. Apparently a playful teammate had scribbled the naughty message on Ripken's bat just before the photo was taken. When this error became public knowledge, Fleer reissued Ripken's card with the offending message blacked out. Predictably, the original 'error card' is much in demand by collectors.

Trivia: Notice the sign for Henry Steig's workshop behind Ewell. Steig was a New York artist best known as a silversmith. His modernist pieces have been exhibited at MoMA and are highly sought by collectors. Paintings by Henry Steig are in the permanent collection of the Provincetown Art Association and Museum. Steig's brother was the sculptor, cartoonist and children's book author, William Steig . . .

DC Comics put out this 'Superman vs. Muhammad Ali' comic book in the late 1970s. They must have printed way more than they sold. I remember them being advertised on TV as 'collectors items' in the mid-1980s. (By the late 1970s, Ali was a mere shell of his former self, so I'd bet on Superman.)

This coin didn't flip--it flopped! With great fanfare in 1979, the United States Treasury Department minted millions of $1 coins featuring a portrait of suffragette Susan B. Anthony on the obverse. Americans were used to dealing with dollar bills--which were still being produced--so the coins were largely shunned. Moreover, their size made them easily confused with quarters. The dollar was minted again in 1980 with little success. In 1981 it was minted solely for collectors' sets. The Susan B. Anthony dollar was reissued in 1999 to meet the demand of vending machines that required dollar coins for change, but they are still generally detested by the public.
