It Happened One Night Walls of Jericho One of the great pictures of the early takies era was It Happened One Night (1934) starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. Colbert plays a spoiled heiress who runs away from her domineering father to marry her playboy fiance. Gable plays a reporter who finds her. He arranges to help her in return for an exclusive story. This scene finds the two strangers sharing a motel cabin. Gable establishes his quaint version of the 'Walls of Jericho' to keep their arrangement platonic.

James Cagney Grapefruit Scene A famous scene from an old classic: James Cagney cruelly shoves a grapefruit into the face of actress Mae Clarke in The Public Enemy (1931). Depending on which story you believe, Cagney either ad-libbed the incident or he and Clarke together decided to incorporate it into the scene. Either way, no one else in the studio expected it!

DION AND THE BELMONTS Then and Now In 1957 the group formed when Dion DiMucci joined The Belmonts - Carlo Mastrangelo, Freddie Milano, and Angelo D'Aleo - in late 1957. In 1958 they recorded 'I Wonder Why', which made it to #22 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and Dion and The Belmonts appeared for the first time on Dick Clark's American Bandstand. This success won Dion and the Belmonts their first major tour in late 1958, with The Coasters, Buddy Holly and Bobby Darin. This was followed up by the 'Winter Dance Party' tour with Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. On February 2, 1959, after playing at Clear Lake, Ohio, Dion decided that he couldn't afford the $36 cost of a flight to the next show. The plane crashed, Buddy Holly and the other stars were killed. Even after that time the hits kept coming for the group. In 2004, Dion gave a live performance at the Tropicana in Atlantic City with Dion (lead vocals, electric and acoustic guitars) Butch Barbella (keyboards, backing vocals), Louie Colleti (backing vocals), Jamie "King" Cotton (sax, percussion, backing vocals), Al Korosy (lead guitar), and Charlie Powers (drums, vocals.) Though this performance wasn't with the Belmonts, Dion sounded just like we remember him after 47 years! He's keeping R&R and Doo-Wop alive!

10000 Dollar Pyramid One of my favorite game shows was Dick Clark's Pyramid. Over the years the prize money gradually increased. This is the start of a very early episode from 1973 when the big prize was a mere $10,000. The celebrities are June Lockhart and Rob (Meathead) Reiner.

Theres Always Something There To Remind Me The UK. Turned out some stonking female singers in the 60's. Sandy Shaw is just one of them and along with Pet Clark they are my favourites.

Bobby Clarke Toothless Photo This is for Naomi: Bobby Clarke of the Philadelphia Flyers displays the dangers of playing hockey--especially in the days before protective face shields. Clarke's toothless grin became something of a trademark for him.
