McDonalds Trivia 1964 postcard featuring McDonald's Filet-o'-Fish McDonald's introduced the Filet-o'-Fish sandwich in the early 1960s in an effort to entice Catholics to the chain on Fridays. At the time, Catholics were not allowed to eat meat on any Friday of the calendar year.

Remembering Tracy and Hepburn Song "I Finally Found Someone" by Barbra Streisand and Bryan Adams. Nowadays, Hollywood fans have regarded Hepburn's lifelong romance with Spencer Tracy as an example of true love even though they never married. Although there must have been true love between them, their romance was far from being a Cinderella story. For most of the years that she spent with him, he was also an alcoholic, at times launching abusive rants before blacking out. For years at a time, Hepburn would help him dry out, arranging her professional life around his needs……..Near the end of Tracy's life Hepburn all but quit working to nurse him through repeated illnesses." Hepburn defended her affair saying, "We just passed 27 years together, in what was to me absolute bliss." And how did Tracy feel about their romance? Believe it or not, it seems he never talked about it because he refused to admit it actually existed. Even when Hepburn rushed to his side when he was hospitalized before he passed on, Tracy referred to her as a wonderful friend. Tracy never allowed the two of them to be photographed together except for a movie they both starred in. We are told that the reason for this is that Tracy was a devout Catholic and was married to another woman, had children and did not want to offend his children, or wife. The love relationship of Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy was an example of both heartbreak and true love.

Hans Schmidt - Murdering Priest Father Hans Schmidt, a handsome Catholic priest originally from Germany, is the only person from his profession ever to be executed in American history. Born in Bavaria in 1881, Schmidt immigrated to the United States in 1909. He was first assigned to a church in Louisville, KY, but a dispute with a fellow priest prompted his relocation to St. Boniface Church in New York City. He quickly gained a reputation of being a fiery orator whose sermons often warned about the temptations of the flesh. Anna Aumuller, an attractive Austrian housekeeper employed by the rectory, caught his eye. The feeling was mutual. Contrary his vows of celibacy, Schmidt became sexually involved with Anna. It was later discovered the two were secretly married in a service of dubious legal standing performed by Schmidt himself! Anna became pregnant shortly thereafter. Schmidt realized this development would be the end of his priesthood, so he slit Anna's throat on September 2, 1913, dismembered her body, and dumped the pieces into the Hudson River. Nevertheless, the victim was identified because parts of the body had been wrapped in monogrammed linen that Anna had specially ordered. Confronted with this evidence, Schmidt confessed to the murder but attempted an insanity defense. It resulted in one hung jury but he was convicted in a second trial. Schmidt went to his death at Sing Sing Prison's electric chair on February 18, 1916. Police later found that Schmidt had another criminal enterprise: a secret apartment well stocked with counterfeiting equipment. Worse still, it was discovered that a nine-year-old girl had been murdered at Schmidt's former church in Louisville and the body--which the killer had tried to dismember--was buried in the church's basement. The church's janitor had been convicted of the crime, however.

Ara Parseghian Passes at age 94 Here's a very good tribute to one of college football's great coaches, Ara Parseghian, who died on August 2, 2017 at the age of 94. Parseghian was the head coach of the football programs at Miami of Ohio, Northwestern, and most famously, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. In fact, Notre Dame, whose team was in the doldrums from 1956 to 1963, hired Parseghian, a non-Catholic of Armenian descent, in 1964 largely because his Northwestern team had beaten Notre Dame four times in a row. Parseghian coached Notre Dame from 1964 to 1974 and compiled a terrific record of 95-17-4. During Parseghian's tenure, Notre Dame was twice voted national champions in the post-season polls.
