ELVIS Just Pretend This song was first recorded on June 6, 1970. If you can get beyond all the glitz of his Las Vegas shows, you'll see that his 1970's releases went a long way toward revealing his rapidly maturing talent. This era would shape up to be the most rewarding and productive time of Elvis' career.

One Step Beyond Madness were a UK group who fell into the genre of Ska-2Tone. Formed from members of other well known groups of the time, this was the title of their first album. They went on to great acclaim in the UK, but there sound became more mainstream. If your a Brit out there watching this, please help me bring more of our culture to the world. Ripleys Believe It Or Not Ripley's Believe It Or Not was a regular feature in newspapers for many decades. Its creator, Robert Ripley, hoped to be a professional baseball player but an arm injury ended that dream. Instead, Ripley decided to write about sports. He compiled some odd sports facts and presented them in cartoon form. Ripley intended to call it Champs & Chumps, but settled on Believe It Or Not so he could go beyond sports. His first cartoon panel premiered in the New York Globe on December 19, 1918. At one point, there were 80 million loyal readers of Believe It Or Not in daily newspapers. Much of Ripley's research was done by Norbert Pearlroth. For 52 years, Pearlroth spent 10 hours per day, six days a week in the New York Public Library searching for obscure facts and trivia for Ripley's cartoons!

Darla Hood 1931-1979 Our Gang She was a darling both on the show and years beyond. The way she died was typical of most of the cast. Theres lots of trivia here. Too much for me. They called it the curse our Gang.

Bill Barilko Mystery One of the oddest sports stories ever is the disappearance of Bill Barilko of the Toronto Maple Leafs. In the spring of 1951, Barilko became a Leafs hero when he scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal against the Montreal Canadiens. That summer, Barilko and a dentist friend, Dr. Henry Hudson, flew to northern Quebec in the dentist's private plane to do some fishing on the Seal River. For their return home, they loaded the plane's pontoons with 120 pounds of fish they had caught, took off for southern Ontario--and were not seen alive again. The RCMP began a huge search for the missing men. (Some thought the police's interest in the case was far beyond what might be expected.) Nearly eleven years passed before the plane's wreckage was discovered in a densely wooded area of northern Ontario. The skeletal remains of Barilko and Hudson were found in the plane. Oddly enough, the plane was facing the opposite direction one would expect--and the 120 pounds of fish were not found in the pontoons. One persistent and fascinating rumor insists that Barilko, who hailed from a gold-mining community, was using his dentist friend as a mule to move a significant quantity of gold nuggets and dust he had illegally obtained from the mine. (Since dentists need gold for fillings, they have connections with gold suppliers.) The plane's pontoons had mysteriously been sliced open.

One Step Beyond Intro This show was before Rod Sterling's Twilight Zone, and many think he copied the style.

The Twilight Zone In my opinion, one of the top series of this genre ever produced for television, the original TZ aired from 1959 to 1964. Rod Serling invited viewers to submit a script. He was flooded with over 14,000, and actually got around to reading 500 of them, but only two were any good, and he couldn't use them because they didn't fit with the format of the show. CBS originally wanted Orson Welles as the narrator/host, but the producers felt that he asked for too much money. I just can't imagine anyone but Rod Serling narrating this series, it was his baby from the start. He made up the phrase 'Fifth Dimension' to use in one season's opening narration, stating that he wanted to go one beyond the four known dimensions. A reporter once asked him what the fourth dimension was, (given the first three are length, width, and height). Serling supposedly answered, 'I don't know. Aren't there four?' Hey, if he thought so, that would have been good enough for me!

Audie Murphy Life Cover Here is the very definition of an American hero: Audie Murphy, the most decorated American soldier of the Second World War. He was under age and undersized, but his battlefield exploits are almost beyond belief. Murphy was awarded 33 American military medals (including the Congressional Medal of Honor), five French military medals and one Belgian military medal. He was killed in a private plane accident in 1971. According to some sources, his grave at Arlington National Cemetery is the second-most visited, second only to John F. Kennedy's.

Bird and Fortune Financial Advisor More of Bird and Fortune. Why is it that Comedy can see over the horizon and the financial world, including these crack financial "talking heads" on the various business networks can't see beyond the next commercial break?
