The classiest game show ever to grace the airwaves was What's My Line. In this 1959 episode Jack Benny is the mystery guest. Hilarity ensues. Why can't TV be this good nowadays?

Now this is what a movie star looks like! Marilyn Monroe made her first television appearance in 1953. It was on the Jack Benny Show. Despite the age mentioned in this clip, Marilyn was an old lady of 27 when she did this.

This wonderful Musical Variety aired live once per month in the time period normally occupied by the dramatic anthology series Climax! Both were sponsored by the Chrysler Corporation and shared the same host, Mr. William Lundigan. There were occasional plays and lots of music and skits. The most familiar face on the Shower of Stars was Jack Benny who appeared in several shows. Grable appeared in the Premiere Episode. . .

Several months ago Cliffy posted a partial version of this song from the DeFranco Family's appearance on a Jack Benny special. Here is a complete version from their appearance on the Mike Douglas Show in 1974. (Hope you don't mind, Cliffy.)

Since many people will be out celebrating tonight, I wanted to be the first to wish everone a very Happy and Safe New Year! This is the version that most people just call: 'ABBA around the piano'. Actually, 'Happy New Year' is a song from their 1980 album, 'Super Trouper'. The song's working title was humourously called 'Daddy Don't Get Drunk On Christmas Day'.
