Ann Meyers Ann Meyers made sports history in 1979 when she inked a deal with the Indiana Pacers, becoming the first female NBA player. She didn't last long. She was cut before the regular season started. Her signing was widely considered to be a publicity stunt. Red Auerbach of the Boston Celtics commented, 'I know Annie, and she's a nice girl, but this is reminiscent of Bill Veeck signing that midget.'

Barbara Eden Tennis Outfit The fifth and final season of I Dream of Jeannie was not especially good. To make up for weak scripts, the plots often had Barbara Eden wearing tight, skimpy clothing--such as this tennis outfit. Anybody got a problem with that?

Hey Jeannie - Failed Sitcom Hey, Jeannie! was a sitcom that lasted for 32 episodes on CBS from September 8, 1956 to May 4, 1957. Jeannie Carson starred as a Scottish woman who emigrated to New York City. She ends up boarding with a cab driver and his wife and working in a donut shop. Late in the show's run the format was changed: Jeannie became a stewardess! Here's the opening montage.

Our Gang - Dickie Moore Dickie Moore was an Our Gang regular in 1932 and 1933, becoming one of the troupe's lead male characters. Dickie was a clean-cut, likable boy who often played the 'straight man' parts against more comical characters. In addition to his Our Gang work, Moore is often remembered for his portrayal of the title character in the 1933 adaptation of Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist and as Marlene Dietrich's son in Blonde Venus (1932). He is also famous for giving Shirley Temple her first onscreen kiss, in Miss Annie Rooney (1942). With dozens of news cameras present to record the 'end-of-innocence kiss,' Moore has described the incident as the most terrifying of his life. (It was the first time in his 17 years that he had kissed any girl!) Moore was less successful as a teenage and young-adult actor, and retired from the screen in the early 1950s. Moore went on to teach and write books about acting, edit Equity magazine, perform on Broadway, in stock, and on television. He also wrote and directed for TV, produced an Oscar-nominated short film (The Boy and the Eagle), and produced industrial films. Moore, who married actress Jane Powell in 1988, passed away on September 10, 2015--just two days before his ninetieth birthday.

1912 British Olympic Womens Swim Team These four swimmers represented Great Britain at the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm. They won the gold medal in the 4 x 100 relay. My research says they are Belle Moore, Jennie Fletcher, Annie Speirs, and Irene Steer, although I don't know which one is which. (I don't know who the dour lady in the middle is. A chaperon or coach, perhaps? She looks like a million laughs.) Women's swimming made its debut in these 1912 Olympics. The British team's winning time was five minutes, 52.8 seconds. By comparison, the gold-medal-winning time of the Australian team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics was three minutes, 52.69 seconds--more than two full minutes ahead of the 1912 pace. The entire 1912 Olympic swimming program was contested in just one day.
