Shelley Winter and Ricardo Montalban While Shelley Winters is top-billed, Ricardo Montalban is the real star of MY MAN AND I. Montalban plays Mexican transient farmer Chu-Chu Ramirez, determined to make something of himself and improve his lot in life. He falls in love with disillusioned alcoholic Nancy (Winters), intending to help her overcome her illness...

Featured Member- LProud aka Lori Proudman-Brown Hi to my friends at YRT! My name is Lori and I was born in upstate NY in June of 1968. I was adopted at 6 months of age and grew up on a dairy farm about an hour southwest of Albany. I love all animals so this was the perfect place for me. My parents worked hard to give me an ideal childhood and succeeded. I would often sneak out of the house as a young child to go visit my "friends" in the barn. I love to read my paternal Grandma's diaries... "Lori was up first thing this morning with toys in one hand and a cat in the other." (1972) I think it was my childhood and the wonderful & comforting memories of it that make YRT such a favorite of mine. I have 3 children, Brianna - age 19, Devon - age 16 & Kayleigh - age 11. I wish they could have grown up when I did. It seems it is more difficult for kids now. There's so much negative stuff for them out there. As much as I love the internet (making new friends, traveling to far off places without leaving home, etc) I think I had a better childhood because of not having it as part of my life. I originally went to college for journalism and dropped out because it wasn't for me. I am not one who is able to always be objective and I don't like the way you have to invade other people's privacy for the sake of a story. I went back to school in for Community/Human Services and now I work as Medicaid eligibility examiner at the Department of Social Services. I like bird watching (raptors) & before I was working full-time I would volunteer with DEC to monitor bald eagles so they could time when to band the eaglets in the Spring. I would accompany them for the local bandings which was always a thrill for me. My other hobby is weather, a real "weather-weenie" as my friends like to call me. I'm a meteorologist-wannabe who was to frightened of physics and math to pursue it as a career. I like to bowl, go fishing and am a pop-culture junkie. I have been told I have a wealth of useless information and take it as a total compliment. I stumbled upon YRT from doing a search for 70s pop culture sites and have been visiting here daily ever since. I love the way a post will prompt my memory of something else and it goes on and on. The people on this site are very welcoming and it feels like "home" on the net. Thank you Steve for the wonderful site and to all of you who help me "go back in time" every day.

Judy Garland Death 1969 In March of 1969, Judy married her fifth husband, Mickey Devinko, better known as Mickey Deans. They lived together in England in a tiny mews house in Chelsea. During the evening of Saturday, June 21 1969, Judy and Mickey were watching television when they had an argument. Judy ran out the door into the street, screaming and waking the neighbors. A phone call for Judy woke Mickey at 10:40 the next morning; Judy was not sleeping in the bed. Mickey searched for her, only to find the bathroom door locked. After no response, he climbed outside to the bathroom window and entered to find Judy, sitting on the toilet. Rigor mortis had already set in. Judy Garland was dead at the age of 47. The official cause of death, according to the death certificate shown here, was accidental barbituate poisoning (quinalbarbitone). The day Judy died, legend has it, there was a tornado in Kansas.

Jeopardy Champion Jason Keller Jason Keller, 30, a private tutor from Highland Park, NJ, won $213,900 as a nine-time champion on Jeopardy! He won for the first time on the December 16, 2011 episode and successfully defended his title eight times until losing on the December 29 episode. His winnings rank sixth in the syndicated show's 27-year history. (It should be noted that contestants were limited to five wins until September 2003.) I know Jason through his connection to tournament Scrabble. (He is one of the top 100 Scrabble players in North America; he finished 19th at the U.S. Nationals in 2011.) Jason attended a Scrabble tourney in Albany, NY just in time to watch the broadcast where he was defeated! He was justifiably greeted by his fellow Scrabble players with great enthusiasm. Jason was called upon to make a speech. He told the crowd a few interesting tidbits about his experiences on Jeopardy!: Tapings are done just two days per week (Tuesday and Wednesday). Jason's shows were taped in mid and late October. Jason won his first game on the last show of the Tuesday taping. He then won all five shows of the Wednesday taping. He then had to fly home for a Scrabble event that weekend and fly back to Los Angeles for further tapings. He won two more games on the Tuesday taping before losing. Jason said he has to wait 120 days to get his winnings--and he will lose about 42 percent of them in taxes. All Jeopardy! contestants are responsible for their own travel and hotel costs. However, the champion of the final show on Wednesday is flown home and back to LA for the next week's taping(s) at the show's expense. In an interesting twist, the player who defeated Jason was Dave Leach--who himself became a six-time champion. The was the first time in Jeopardy! history that a super-champion (a player who won more than five games) was dethroned by another super-champion.

Brien Taylor - Pitching Bust Brien Taylor was one of the most hyped amateur pitching prospects ever. Born in Beaufort, North Carolina, Taylor attended East Carteret High School. In his senior season, Taylor threw 88 innings, striking out 213 hitters while walking 28. His fastball often hit 98 and 99 mph. In 2006, agent Scott Boras claimed Taylor was the best high school pitcher he had ever seen. The New York Yankees selected Taylor with the first overall selection in the 1991 MLB draft and offered him $300,000 to sign a minor league contract, the typical amount given to the first overall draft choice at that time. However, Boras, acting as an advisor, told the Taylor family the previous year's top-rated high school pitcher, Todd Van Poppel, had gotten than $1.2 million to sign with the Oakland Athletics. Taylor held out for a three-year $1.2-million deal. He eventually signed for $1.55 million the day before he was to begin classes at a local junior college. The Yankees hoped Taylor would be the next Dwight Gooden and pitch in the majors at age 19. However Taylor needed to improve his pickoff move to first base, so he was assigned to the team's farm system. In 1992 Taylor was 6-8 for the Class A Fort Lauderdale Yankees, with a 2.57 earned run average and 187 strikeouts in 161 innings. The next year, as a 21-year-old with the Double-A Albany-Colonie Yankees, Taylor went 13-7 with a 3.48 ERA and had 150 strikeouts in 163 innings. Baseball America named him the game's best prospect and he was expected to pitch for the Triple-A Columbus Clippers of the International League in 1994 and start for the Yankees in 1995. On December 18, 1993 Taylor suffered a dislocated left shoulder and torn labrum while defending his brother in a fistfight. In the scuffle, Taylor fell on his pitching shoulder. Dr. Frank Jobe, a well-known orthopedic surgeon, called Taylor's injury one of the worst he'd seen. Taylor was never the same pitcher again. When he returned to baseball after surgery, his fastball was noticeably slower and he was unable to throw a curveball for a strike. Taylor spent the bulk of the remainder of his professional baseball career struggling at the Single-A level. Taylor bounced around different MLB farm teams until retiring in 2000. After baseball, Taylor moved to Raleigh and worked as a UPS package handler and later as a beer distributor. He fathered five daughters. By 2006, he was working as a bricklayer with his father. In January 2005, police charged Taylor with misdemeanor child abuse for allegedly leaving four of his children--none over 11--alone for more than eight hours. He didn't show up for his court date, and at one point there were four outstanding warrants for his arrest. According to financial records, he was earning $909 per month. In March 2012, Taylor was charged with cocaine trafficking after undercover narcotics agents purchased a large quantity of cocaine and crack cocaine from him over a period of several months. He was federally indicted on cocaine trafficking charges in June 2012. Taylor pled guilty in August 2012 and was sentenced to 38 months in prison, followed by three years' supervised release.
