Green Acres theme Green Acres was another 1960s sitcom with a very recognizable theme. It was a reversal of The Beverly Hillbillies: Rich urbanites move to the simplicity of a rural setting. This show had an element of surrealism about it. Oliver Douglas was often the only sane person among a group of crazies. It is reputedly Conan O'Brien's favorite TV show.

FOX News Insults Canadian Military I generally don't post recent clips, but this one needs to be shown. A panel of buffoons on the FOX News 'Redeye' show recently belittled the Canadian military at about the same time four Canadian soldiers were killed in Afghanistan in a roadside ambush. Among the classless things said about the Canadian Armed Forces was a bizarre accusation that they want to take a break from their duties to have 'yoga classes, paint landscapes and wear Capri pants on the beach.' Canadians are more than a little bit miffed by these ignorami. To date 116 Canadians have been killed in the mission in Afghanistan. Here's the story from CBC News.

Swiss spaghetti harvest hoax As an April Fools joke in 1957, the respected BBC program Panorama broadcast this bogus news feature about the springtime spaghetti harvest...in Switzerland. Many people were duped by the prank and contacted the BBC to request more information about spaghetti farming.

Sitcom Cast Announces Its Own Cancellation The ABC sitcom I Married Dora only aired from September 22, 1987 until January 8, 1988 before getting the axe. Total Television describes it as 'a witless sitcom about a parent who married his Latin American housekeeper to save her from deportation.' Uniquely, the termination of I Married Dora was announced by its cast members as part of the final show! Take a look...

High Noon intro The opening 2-1/2 minutes of High Noon (1952)--including the Oscar-winning theme song composed by Dimitri Tiomkin. Terrific adult western shot in real time about a marshal who postpones his retirement to defend an ungrateful town from a vengeful bunch of killers.

Worst TV Show Ever - Turn-On Turn-On is generally regarded as the worst television show ever to grace the airwaves of American TV. Created by Laugh-In producers George Schlatter and Ed Friendly, Turn-On lasted just one broadcast: Wednesday, February 5, 1969. At some ABC afiliates, as Tim Conway explains in this clip, it was yanked off the air before it was finished. Turn-On was similar to Laugh-In. It was 30 minutes of skits and backouts bridged together by weird electronic music. Most of the skits were overly suggestive by 1969 standards. (One featured a comely blonde about to be executed by a firing squad. The head of the squad said, 'This might sound unusual but WE have one final request!' Another skit featured a vending machine that dispensed birth control pills.) Good luck finding clips of this turkey. Apparently the master tape is locked away in a vault somewhere never to be aired again.
