GI joe figurines Three GI Joe figures from the 1980s and the cover of the first (1982) G.I. Joe catalog. The figures are 3.75" tall. (The 12" figures came later.) The first 3.75" G.I. Joe action figures (Series One) were available in 1982 and consisted of seventeen characters. A new series was introduced every year thereafter. (It should be noted that the very first G.I. Joe figures came out in the 1960s.) The G.I. Joe animated TV series was launched in 1983. This was successful enough to warrant a second mini-series in 1985. Later that year, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero became a regular weekday program that ran through 1987. In 1987 an animated movie was made. A second series was launched in 1989 and ran through 1992. I collected all of them

Upstairs Downstairs Upstairs, Downstairs was a BAFTA and Emmy award-winning British drama set in a large townhouse in Edwardian London that depicted the lives of the servants "downstairs" and their masters "upstairs". It ran on ITV for five series from 1971 to 1975. First shown in the US in 1974. Upstairs, Downstairs attempted to portray life in a high-status house set against the events of early 20th century. Great events are featured prominently in the episodes but minor or gradual changes are noted as well. It stands as a document of the social and technological changes that occurred between 1903 and 1930. The lives of the servants are integral to the story.

These primitive units where gigantic and enormously expensive, standing 5 1/2 feet tall, weighing over 750 pounds, and costing about $5000 each."

Gunsmoke Seeing all of the submissions for western TV series inspired me to jump on the bandwagon. The television series ran from September 10, 1955 to September 1, 1975 on CBS for 635 episodes. To this day, it is the longest run of any scripted series with continuing characters in American primetime television.

John Belushi and Jane Curtin Belushi achieved national fame for his work on Saturday Night Live, which he joined as an original cast member in 1975. Belushi was also known for his drug usage, and it eventually cost him his life. On March 5, 1982 Belushi, age 33, was found at his room at Bungalow #3 of the Chateau Marmont on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. The cause of death was a speedball, an injection of cocaine and heroin. On the night of his death, he was accompanied by friends Robin Williams and Robert De Niro (at the height of their own drug exploits). . .

KOLCHAK THE NIGHT STALKER Opening Network series that ran from 1974-1975. Carl Kolchak, played so well by Darren McGavin, was a reporter for Chicago's Independent News Service, and a magnet for situations involving the supernatural. He turned his investigative skills to vampires, werewolves, zombies and all kinds of legendary creatures, but in the end he always failed to convince his skeptical editor, Tony Vincenzo, played by Simon Oakland, that the stories weren't just products of his own overworked imagination. I was so faithful to this show, and was so disappointed when they cancelled it.
