Pete Maravich Dies at Age 40 The greatest college basketball player in history was Louisiana State University's Pete Maravich. He still holds the career NCAA scoring record despite playing in an era when freshmen were ineligible and there was no three-point line on the court. In a 1973 Sports Illustrated interview, Maravich championed proper diet and exercise. He said, 'I don't want to die of a heart attack when I'm 40.' On January 6, 1988 Maravich collapsed after a session of pick-up basketball in a church gymnasium. The cause of death: heart failure. He was 40 years old. Maravich's last words were, 'I feel great.'

Petticoat Junction Romance Petticoat Junction fans will recall that, in the sitcom, Betty Jo Bradley married Steve Elliott in 1967. Betty Jo was played by Linda Henning, the daughter of Paul Henning, who created the show. Steve was played by Mike Minor, the son of Don Fedderson, who created My Three Sons. The two got married in real life in 1968. They divorced in 1973.

The Sting - Poker Game A memorable scene from one of my favorite flicks--The Sting (1973): Henry Gondorff (Paul Newman) proves he's a better poker player than Doyle Lonnegan (Robert Shaw). To be completely accurate, Gondorff actually proves he's the better card cheat of the two.
