Auchincloss Family Photo While born of the same mother, Jacqueline Bouvier and James Auchincloss had different fathers. Divorce and remarriage resulted in a blended Auchincloss and Bouvier family, and Jackie and young "Jamie" lived together at the Auchincloss family home in Newport, R.I., for a time. Jackie considered herself a big sister to Jamie and even had him carry her train at her 1953 marriage to JFK at the Auchincloss estate. Ten years later he would walk directly behind her in the funeral procession after having been entrusted to spend the previous couple of days shielding John Jr. and Caroline from the news of their fatherís death...

The Glenn Miller Story Here's the opening credits plus a few minutes from the middle of The Glenn Miller Story (1953). Jimmy Stewart played the title character. If this music doesn't make you feel nostalgic, nothing will!

Hymn of the Soviet Union 1977 This is the revised version of The Hymn of the Soviet Union. The original version was written in 1927 and had allusions to Josef Stalin. After Stain died in 1953 and Nikita Khruschev took over, Stalin was discredited. This created a problem with having Stalin's name mentioned in the national anthem. The solution? Keep the tune but ditch the words. Thus, The Hymn of the Soviet Union was officially wordless until 1977 when these new Stalin-free lyrics were adopted. There's a really interesting story about how the new lyrics came to be. If anyone is curious enough to ask, I'll post the story in the comments section.

Oh Happy Day John Wayne married Josephine Saenz, daughter of the Panamanian Consul in Los Angeles on June 23, 1933. After the ceremony, the couple and guests celebrated at the home of Loretta Young (right). Wayne divorced Josephine in 1945 after he met the woman who would become his second wife, Esperanza Baur. Their rocky marriage lasted until 1953 when Wayne met Pilar Pallete, the daughter of a Peruvian Senator. Pallete was married to Wayne until his death in 1979 from lung cancer. . .

Margaret Court Wins Grand Slam Here is a historic sports clip: The last four games of the 1970 U.S. Open women's singles final at Forest Hills. Margaret (Smith) Court thumps Rosie Casals to capture the Grand Slam. Only one other female had achieved the feat previously: Maureen Connolly in 1953. Only one woman has done it since: Steffi Graf in 1988. Bud Collins and Billie Jean King provide the commentary. (Check out Bud's trousers! He was always a flashy dresser.)
