I just read where LBS dropped football one year after that sad incident.

Remember the California-Stanford game of 1982 where the school band rushed the field? I just saw a tape from a different angle on youtube. Apparently, the band did so deliberately even though they knew the game was still in progress. Recall that a band member was pulverized by the player with the ball and could have been seriously injured.

If it were up to me, all such nonsense would be banned as it is too dangerous.

I heard it but never verified it was true, I guess it is:

I'd never heard the Gatorade story, Classico. Interesting. Kind of ironic too that Allen was doing his best to be an old-school coach, and his demise was caused by a very modern type of celebration. Can you imagine Vince Lombardi or Tom Landry getting a Gatorade shower?

Sadly, Coach Allen got a fever and pneumonia when he was given a Gatorade splashing after a LBS victory. He got ill and never recovered from the splashing. How sad those players must have felt after learning that their enthusiasm is what killed off their coach!
