1950s / Maurice Richard Riot
The most shameful incident in Canadian sports history occurred on March 17, 1955. A riot broke out during a Montreal-Detroit NHL game at the Montreal Forum and quickly spread to the streets. The fans were angrily reacting to the suspension of their hero, Maurice Richard. This is a CBC news clip that aired on the 50th anniversary.
