1970s / Alls Fair - Forgotten Sitcom
According to the critics, All's Fair, a Norman Lear sitcom, was the can't-miss new offering for the 1976-77 TV season. Nevertheless, it missed. Set in Washington, D.C., All's Fair centered around a 49-year-old conservative newspaper columnist Richard Barrington (Richard Crenna) and his romance with a 23-year-old liberal photographer Charlotte Drake (Bernadette Peters). With so many differences between Barrington and Drake, the main characters spent a great deal of time shouting at one another (leading one critic to call it a "high-decibel comedy"). All's Fair premiered on CBS on September 20, 1976 and got generally favorable reviews. Peters was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role. The public never took a liking to All's Fair, though. It was off the air by the end of April 1977 after just 24 episodes.
