Election Will Be Deceided Tonight For the last 17 elections, that's 68 years the game played by the Washington Redskins decides who wins the Presidential election. If the Redskins win, the party that is in office will remain in office. Right now it's is 10-6 at the half, Pittsburgh is winning. I Washington loses, Obama will win the election.

Yeah, a friend of mine told me about this stat.

There's always some unrelated sports streak that people find that somehow relates to the presidential election. For a wile it was the World Series. From 1952 through 1976, if a National League team won, a Democrat would be elected. If an American League team won, a Republican would win the White house.

There was a World Series this year? Who won? Who will be in the White House?

Here's how the World Series/presidential election coincidences played out from 1952 to 1976.

1952: Yankees (AL); Eisenhower (R)
1956: Yankees (AL); Eisenhower (R)
1960: Pirates (NL); Kennedy (D)
1964: Cardinals (NL); Johnson (D)
1968: Tigers (AL); Nixon (R)
1972: Athletics (AL); Nixon (R)
1976: Reds (NL); Carter (D)

The pattern ended in 1980 when the Phillies (NL) won the World Series and Reagan (R) was elected.

Just like the game last night, Washington took a small lead but that was the extent of it.
