Fastpitch softball was big in Canada when I was a kid. I played for seven years.

One team had an outstanding pitcher, and the same arguments kept coming up: He should be forced to play on the travel teams or he should be forced to move up to a higher age group. His parents didn't want the hassle of travel team play, and you can't really force someone to play in a higher league because he's too good for his peers. He played and we coped.

We eventually figured how to get hits off him--and somewhere in a drawer I have my championship crest from 1974.
