1908 Olympic Games Here's a minute of film from the 1908 Olympics in London. The opening clip shows the famous finish to the marathon: Italy's Dorando Pietri staggering into the stadium, collapsing, and being assisted across the finsh line. (Pietri was properly disqualified.) You have to love the pole vaulter landing on his feet in the sand. There were no sissy landing mats in 1908!

Ah, this certainly brings back memories. (No, I wasn't around in 1908, but when I was a university student I did write a term paper on the 1908 Olympics for a history course dealing with Edwardian England.)

I saw no Pole, Vaulter. Maybe he was Czech?

Cancel that Czech! He appears to have a maple leaf on his jersey, so that makes him Canadian. (Since no Canadian has ever done anything spectacular in Olympic pole vaulting, he must have been one of our lovable also-rans.)

Aw come on now Lava it'll happen and no I won't mention the B J story. Sitting back over here in disbelief at the amount of Gold the UK has and three of them belong to a Scotsman. The comment was made though that we can only win gold if it's a sitting event but the wee lassie on the track disproved all the hecklers.

As of this minute, Canada has 12 Olympic medals from Beijing--and only two are gold.

In other words, American swimmer Michael Phelps has amassed four times as many gold medals as Canada has.

We Canadians need to recruit better drug-cheats.
