I remember Alan. A lot of people forget that he was a good actor as well. BTW, wasn't Toast of the Town the original title for the Ed Sullivan Show?

Toast of the Town actually started back in 1948 on CBS, then it became known as The Ed Sullivan Show.

Alan King was so funny! Most of his dialogue was based on family, especially his wife and kids. Around this same time, we also had David Brenner, Charlie Callas, JOhn Byner, Rich Little and another comedian I'll bet most people really don't remember, Sam Levinson. There was no profanity in their routines, and pretty much everything was taken directly from their own life experiences.
Later on Alan King's routine changed somewhat with the times, just as George Carlin's did, after that they were never the same.

A lot of people forget that Alan was a good actor. He was in Casino, Memories of Me and the Anderson Tapes.
