Ex-Yanks star and broadcaster Bobby Murcer dies at 62 Bobby Murcer, a five-time All-Star outfielder who spent nearly four decades with the New York Yankees as a player, executive and announcer, has died. He was 62. The Yankees said Murcer died Saturday due to complications from brain cancer. He was surrounded by family at Mercy Hospital in his hometown of Oklahoma City, the team said.

Back in the day, Bobby was initially billed as the next Mickey Mantle. While he may never make the Major League HOF, he was one who gave 100 % every night.

Calling someone the next Mantle, Cobb, Ruth, etc. is setting that person up for failure. No one can be the next so-and-so. You can always be the first and only you, though.
