Another striking distance between these gymnasts and modern ones: These gymnasts were mature women--not the teenagers we see today.

Women's gymnastics was more power oriented in those days. The code of points were later changed to emphasize balance and flexibility rather than power. As a result, it became a better sport and remains one of my favorite.
