Howard Cosell Final Boxing Broadcast Here are the final two rounds of Larry Holmes' one-sided heavyweight title defense against Randall (Tex) Cobb in Houston in 1982. The fight was notorious for Howard Cosell's negative, anti-boxing commentary. Cosell never worked another bout.

Cosell's commentary--what there was of it--generally outraged boxing fans that night. I recall myself and two friends screaming at the TV screen imploring Cosell to shut up.

The Ring magazine's coverage of this fight included a story titled 'Howard Cosell: Journalist Or Jerk-O-List.'

Tex Cobb later quipped, 'I would have let Holmes beat me up again if it would have gotten Cosell off football broadcasts too.'

No matter what they said about him in the sports world, when you think of the words honesty, straight from the shoulder, and tell it like it is, you think of one man... Howard Cosell.

I recal one critic quipping, 'He changed his name from Cohen to Cosell. He wears a toupee. And we're supposed to believe he's telling it like it is?'
