Leonard turned pro in 1977. He was paid $44,000 for his professional debut--an unheard of sum at the time. He was the best pro boxer of his generation--in my humble opinion.

Amateur and Olympic boxing in the 1970s was very exciting and entertaining. The way the sport is scored and officiated now, it's almost unwatchable.
