Last week it was warm so of course we turned the heat off and opened the windows. Yet, we still heard the furnace kick on a couple times that day. Even though we have on demand hot water, there is a small reservoir tank for immediate water use. We were running the furnace just for that!
So we turned the furnace off at the service switch. I don’t know how much oil the furnace consumes on a cycle, but even if its just a half gallon of oil that’s at least $2 per cycle ($4 per gallon). I knew I hear it come on 3 times so that is $6 a day!
Just remember to turn it back on when you need it for bathing or dishes. If you have an electric heater and no switch it might be worth it to have an electrician come in and install one. Electricity is the most expensive way to heat water in a conventional tank.
Just remember, you are paying for you water to stay warm even when you don’t need it!

I found the easiest way to save energy/money is just to make sure my tires are properly inflated. Especially during spring where temperatures fluctuate and giving a lower pressure which means less miles per gallon.

Did you know if you replace just one-quarter of your lighting in high-use areas of your home with fluorescent lights, you can save about 50% of your lighting energy bill?

You can turn your electric water heater off at the circuit breaker! No switch needed!

After my latest trip to Wally-World, walking through the produce department and noting the prices...I realized how my efforts in my small garden are paying off in huge savings, and providing great fresh veggies. Plant a garden...put a tomato plant in a large pot...herbs in a bunch of small pots...Grow some savings in your next fresh salad.

Mmmmmm vine ripened tomatoes! Starting to get those from my father in laws garden; nothing better. Add mozzarella cheese chunks, basil, oil and vinegar...Heaven!
