That makes two of us. I was in the Navy in 1977 when this was a hit, you are right it was huge there, originating in France but big all over Europe.

I have the CD but never saw this as a video.

This was originally written for Nina Simone, who first recorded it in 1964. It was performed by several artists, and I think most of us remember hearing it performed by The Animals. This cover by Santa Esmeralda was also a pretty big hit.
