Some months ago I posted a 1979 Sports Illustrated cover featuring exciting world featherweight champion Danny 'Little Red' Lopez. Here he is defending his title against Argentina's Juan Malvarez on September 15, 1978 in a short but dramatic contest. Lopez was a notoriously slow starter who often got decked early by his opponent. Lopez would invariably roar back and score a knockout...like he did here.

Fantastically entertaining bout...proving that the best action fights in boxing are often in the lighter weight classes.

Don't know where Lopez got his power. He wasn't exactly built like a heavy hitter.
