In fact dialects can change several times even within one state.My friend and I were in Maine they were having a 4th of July celebration with fireworks at a park.We asked a State trooper who was there.If We could camp overnight and drink alcohol.I asked him 2X rephrasing the question,and so did My friend figuring Our possible N.J. accent was throwing him off? We still have no idea 30 years later! If it was yes or no? That's the only time I didn't understand what someone said and ,I've been in most states.Even Cajun in New Orleans was no problem.Well We drank and slept in a tent regardless?
