I never ordered these, but I was always curious to find out exactly what they were. Then I did some research a few years back, apparently they're a variety of very tiny shrimp that are delivered while they're in a state of suspended animation. Once you add the ingredients that are included with the shrimp, they 'come alive'. Actually, what you're putting in the water is food for them. But I don't know how long they live.
