Secretariat Wins the Belmont This is of of the most outstanding things in sports you'll ever see: Secretariat decisively captures horse racing's Triple Crown in 1973 by winning the Belmont Stakes by a remarkable 31 lengths! Secretariat's winning time was 2:24--still the Belmont track record. CBS announcer Chic Anderson makes the classic call.

Baseball is my passion. I don't generally follow horse racing but you have to love something as awesome as this.

New Yorkers love their sports and that era was a great one for sports in the Big City. The Belmont Stakes have always been among the grandest events there.

I will never forget that awesome day when Big Red won the Belmont. Everyone was in awe. It is still one of the greatest events I have ever seen in all of sports.

It was said that when Big Red liked you, he would push you with his nose. If he really liked you, he would swipe you with his tail. And if he really, really liked, he would bite you on the shoulder!

Yes, Secretariat was quite a character!!
