The Alhambra, opened around the turn of the 20th century, was a vaudeville house which later began screening films, then switched over to film altogether. Bob Hope attended vaudeville shows here with his mother while living in this neighborhood of Cleveland as a boy...

I'd love to see the interior of this old theatre. They still had a few of these left in downtown Miami in the early 60's. One of them, called the Olympia, had an interior that resembled an opera house, everything was so plush, the carpets and heavy velvet drapes were all deep red. I'm not sure what year they began showing films. I haven't been back there since I was a teen, and I would suspect with all the changes Miami has seen since then, they've probably either torn it down or renovated it. It's a shame, they're such historic buildings.

I just love that sign on the side of the building, The house with the organ. My grand mother told me once, that our local flea pit used to have one that came up from the floor. Talkies ruined that though, she said. Times change. Now everywhere you go, there are these generic multi-screen places with no character. Assembly line viewing.

You're right donmac, there are like 16 theaters in some of these multiplexes, and it is definitely, as you say 'assembly line' viewing.

We have one of those here in Detroit The Old Redford Theater. Before the show Pipe organs. Theres an Intermission too. Once in awhile they have a 3 Stooges Fest. Packed every time. Its in a bad neighborhood though. Next to Pauls Barber shop and Sweet potato sensations.
