A Hat for Hedda Hopper Spike Jones and His City Slickers My mom always mentioned Hedda Hopper but I never really knew who she was until I stumbled on this clip! Hedda Hopper (May 2, 1885 – February 1, 1966) was an American actress and gossip columnist, whose long-running feud with friend turned arch-rival Louella Parsons became at least as notorious as many of Hopper's columns.

Hedda and Louella were both columnists. Louella had been friendly to her in her columns and there were many times she passed her information. But they became rivals when they began competing for the title 'Queen of Hollywood', although those who knew them both said that Hedda was the more sadistic, surprisingly, given her Quaker upbringing.

Hedda was also well known for her many hats, considered her trademark, mostly because of her unusual taste for large, flamboyant ones!
